He will take up the position on July 25, says the Defence Ministry

The government has appointed Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) Rear Admiral Mohammad Shaheen Iqbal as the new chief of Naval Staff.

The Ministry of Defence said in a gazette notification on Saturday that the appointment will come into effect on July 25, when Iqbal will be promoted to Vice Admiral.

He will serve as the Navy chief for three years until July 24, 2023, according to it.

Iqbal will replace incumbent Aurangzeb Chowdhury who will go on retirement on July 25.

Rear Admiral Iqbal joined the Bangladesh Navy as an officer cadet in 1980. He worked his way through Bangladesh Naval Academy and was commissioned in the Executive Branch on December 1, 1982.

During his service career, Rear Admiral Iqbal attended various courses at home and abroad. He specialized in ‘Anti-Submarine Warfare’ from India. He successfully completed ‘Officers’ Weapon Course’ in SI&T, Sylhet and ‘International Surface Warfare Course’ in the USA. He is a graduate of ‘Naval Staff College’ in the USA.

Later on, Rear Admiral Iqbal completed ‘Armed Forces War Course’ (AFWC) in 2005 and ‘National Defence Course’ (NDC) in 2010 respectively from National Defence College, Mirpur, Dhaka.

He also successfully completed ‘Combined Force Maritime Component Commander Flag Officers Course’ (CFMCC) at Hawaii in USA in 2015. He received commendation from the Chief of Naval Staff for outstanding performance in professional courses.

I hope the new navy chief will keep up the pace with which the previous navy chief Aurangzeb saheb was modernizing the navy.

The new navy chief is blessed though, many good things slated to happen during his tenure.

Best of luck to him and our navy.

Few name always confuse me.
Shaheen, navaid, Nusrat, Kosar.
Anyway, congrats to Bangladeshi guys to select a capable guy.
Thanks that you congratulate us . But I am a bit surprised that such names confused you . What reason is this ? Just curious!

Shaheen is very common name , I personally know at least 7/8 shaheen! All are bengali speaking people!
nusrat is not very uncommon too .

Navid is also not very rare ( although not among dominant names ) . Just haven't heard the name kosar yet , do you mean kawsar/Kaisar instead of kosar ? If yes , I would say both names are also very common name in Bangladesh .

Again I myself know tons of kawsar/kaisar personally!

Only one is Urdu speaking bihari named kawsar and she is a woman .

Rest of them are men and pure Bengali speaker . ( both kawsar and kaisar ) !

IQBAL KA SHAHEEN-----------A rare name in Bangladesh:coffee:

Any how best of luck:tup:
Both Iqbal and shaheen are used as very common and used as separate names , Iqbal ahmed ,Iqbak hussein , Shaheenul islam , Shaheen ahmed etc etc .

Using both name together is uncommon though .

See that's the confusions. I know many men with name Shaheen, Kawser, Navaid, Nusrat.
But I know many women too, with same names.
Thats the confusion.

Anyway Congrats To the new Chief.
