The war cry of China in the 60s and 70s. The Americans are being dominated by a ruthless regime, the Americans are starving, they are being deprived of the great communist system, so on and so forth.

Of course, with the opening of China, we soon realized, not only do the Americans not need saving, but they are actually living far better than we are.

Fast forward to 2015, China is undemocratic! Chinese are being oppressed! No freedom! Political prisoners everywhere! No chance for the poor, it's all princelings! People are starving! Save those poor souls!

Anybody that's been in China should know how crazy these assertions are, are there political prisoners? Yes, those are very rare and for very different reasons than simply talking about the government. Anyone's been in China knows, everyone from the common cabby to CEOs talk politics, pretty much everyone hates on politics, same as in every other democratic country.

China, in terms of opportunities, it's plentiful, we have so many jobs that the country is turning a blind eye to ASEAN people coming to China to work for less, still a few times more than their home, now. Some say, how many country can say a Tea sales man can be a PM? Well, Chinese politics is littered with people of not only common upbringing and even more sad tales. Hu is from a family that was purged, Xi's family was also purged, the corrupt Zhou was from a common peasant family, and the Chinese admiral Zhang who is always on TV, didn't even have enough to eat, he joined the military to have three meals a day.

In terms of workers rights and "slavery," those long hour jobs are now mostly held by foreigners, because apparently Chinese demand more than double their pay and benefits, short hours and holidays. Even Western media are not as harsh on working conditions as they once were, which is saying a lot.

In terms of freedom, I have frequently heard Westerners say Chinese have too much freedom, and that there is not enough police. That too many people are just blatantly disobey traffic laws, commit scams, and selling fake stuff.

One story is, one of my buddies went to pay a new charge for foreigners, and he got laughed out of the office for coming, cause nobody does it, and the staff didn't even know what to do if somebody did.

Chinese police are nothing more than ugly models on display, cause if things go down, the SWAT will show up and the police will be running faster than civilians, because they have no weapons, and the SWAT will be late because nobody stops or moves for police vehicles.

Internet freedom is a real problem, but for the general public hardly notice it, due to the fact, anything we block, we have a better version of it in China. Weibo, WeChat, and these things were once copies, but are so much more now. They can do anything from hailing a cab, to order me a meal.

Our TV have so much mind-numbingly stupid shows that makes the Americans look smart. So yea it's pretty entertaining.

We have HSR, we have good roads, we can go where we want, eat what we want, and do what we want, life isn't perfect, but hardly terrible.

Some ask, why don't we liberate ourselves? Why don't we follow HK? (Looking at you Pan dems in HK) Hard to say really, come to China and see for yourself.

I know a lot is wrong with the way western media portrays China. That said, I never thought for once that democracy is very important. We can devise other systems as well.

But what is indeed most important is:
1. Rule of Law
2. Corruption free system
3. Strong Institutions
4. Freedom of Speech
5. Free Press

The above things are very important. Though Xi has been trying to work on 1 and 2, the problem with his methods is that it is not transparent, and it is not institutionalized. When Xi goes away, what about corruption then? Freedom from corruption can only be achieved when the system doesn't allow it. In Chinese system, the officials have all the power, and they can misuse this. The rest of the world deals this via two things:

1. Free Press- which questions the authorities and brings them to account
2. Independent Judiciary - which is totally devoid of any political control
3. Civil Liberties- so that people may not fear while speaking up

I would like to see what system China evolves. I just hope that that system is best for China, and is a betterment on the western style democracy. You can pick and choose if you want. See west devised a political, legal and economic system, which they called the liberal capitalist democracy. They asked others to blindly copy their system. They didn't believe other systems are good. To some extent they were right. China has already adopted a lot of economic frameworks espoused in that system. I think it is not necessary to implant the system, but freedom of speech and rule of law are very important things.

You have nothing to explain. If the system in your country satisfies your needs, then its enough or should be enough for foreigners.

A system should be adapted to suit the country, the country should not be held hostage and adapt to suit a system.

A system must suit the country, then country must not suit a system.

Very well said. If a particular system works for the Chinese, then by Jobe, let them enjoy it.
