State minister for home Shamsul Haque Tuku has claimed that law and order situation in the country is better than ever before.
He was talking to reporters on Monday after his visit to Dhakeswari Temple following Sunday’s theft.
He added that a few stray incidents cannot be considered an indicator of overall situation in the country.
As regards theft at the temple, Tuku said that the government was giving highest priority to the incident and has directed its law enforcing agencies to conduct a proper investigation. “The miscreants will be brought to books at any cost.”
He alleged that it was the BNP-led four-party alliance that patronised extremism at the state level.
While asked to respond to Sarbajanin Puja Udjapan Parishad’s remark on Hindu community suffering from insecurity, Tuku said, “There is nothing to be worried about. We are giving the issue utmost importance. No one is suffering from insecurity.”
About 200 bhori (1 Bhori = 0.34 ounce) gold ornaments, five-six bhori of silver ornaments and cash Tk 450,000 had been stolen from the temple in early hours of Sunday.
