Laptop to be sold at Tk.15,000 from June next: Raju

DHAKA, Feb 24 (BSS) – Post and Telecommunication Minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju today said the government would go for marketing laptops and mobile phones from coming June as the government envisioned for establishing Digital Bangladesh by 2021.

He was speaking at a press conference about performance of his ministry at his secretariat office.

Raju said, “As part of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s dream of ‘Digital Bangladesh’ we have gone ahead to announce that the government would be marketing laptops between Taka 15,000 and Taka 21,000, and mobiles phones between Taka 1000 and Taka 3000 from the coming month of June.

” A communication satellite, known as Bangabandhu -1, would be established soon. We have already selected the consultant who are working on it.”

In order of big local demand, Bangladesh Cable Industry Limited, who established a Fibre Optic Plant, are now producing fibre cables from January this year, said the Post and Communication Minister.

He told reporters that Bangladesh Telphone Shilpa Sangstha have earned net profit of Taka 14 crore 52 lakh. This organization was a losing concern for the last 10 years, he said.

Raju said, ” Our ministry is surging ahead with Prime Minister’s slogan of ‘Charter for Change’ and her dream of ‘Vision 2021′. Awami League always thinks about public welfare that’s why people’s expectations are very high to the Mohajote government.

Are govt. giving any subsidy on the laptops?

No government org BTCL will manufacture it and as manufacturing cost is much lower then China so here is the reduction of cost... If I am not wrong they have teamed up with some world renowned company for this...

Same also the case for mobile hand set... n they will try to manufacture 3g set... but this time they have teamed up with some bharati company... but I believe they could have done with much renowned companies then that...

I see hope and bright future for bangladesh:tup: Together, we can make S.Asia a better place in future. I wish Pakistan also takes heed.

All of these are nice words and I wish this wish come into reality.. but India will have to change its mind set.. and will need to give up its hegemonic agenda and needs to treat every one with respect and equality unlike present format where friendly relation means to India bowing down to its demand ... and do what ever its want...

So far India has done nothing other then some empty promises... despite bd is one of the biggest Indian exporting market and this AL government is fulfilling one after another demand of the bharatis withing getting anything in return...

You could have tried Huawei, etc. But they won't come cheap.
Some Indian Brands are quite good though, Micromax has reduced the market share of Nokia and Sony Erricsson in India to a big extent. :)

I have never used any bharati set... so idea about that... n which sort of set market they have reduced... for nokia... the 2g or 3g sets??? If these are 2g sets all of these are quite understandable as majority of the poor people purchase 2g set and they opt for the cheapest set... but for 3g I have lots of doubt about bharati sets... (in terms of quality and functionality).

Can you elaborate it please, the last think its a business deal with a private company and its free from Govt hegemony, you pay we serve. From where does the point of disrespect and inequality comes from?

Micromax: Nothing Like Anything | Mobile Phones India

Why not take advantage of this and promote Bangladesh as an electronic manufacturing hub??

Shortage of electricity and poor infrastructure... are the 2 reasons.. but bangladesh is working on it and it is the target of bangladesh to turn itself in to the manufacturing hub ... by taking advantage of the low labor cost... n remaining close to 2 big populous country it is adding advantage to bd... even other then that bd has access to many EU and North american and OIC countries without any duty... these are increasing attractiveness of bd... n as due to increase of cost china is diversifying its toy and light manufacturing base and bd has cheap labor rate then India, vietnam or indonesia... so bd is trying its best to get many of the business... gradually bd has plan to move towards heavy manufacturing base and turn bd into a knowledge based economy by 2030.

Bangladesh must increase power supply and have a chemical industry, otherwise even industries like textiles and toys will not be profitable since you'll be forced to buy fiber and plastic from the outside.
