A group of pilgrims from Elpitiya had come under attack by a pro-LTTE gang in Chennai, South India.
One of the pilgrims, Susil Kukulegama, said the attack took place today (Aug. 03) after they were identified as Sri Lankans.
The pilgrims, who had left for India on July 17, had been shopping at the time of the incident.
They are presently staying at a hotel in Chennai.
Meanwhile, the head of public relations at the External Affairs Ministry Sarath Dissanayake said they were unaware of such an incident.
He said, however, the reported incident would be looked into.
