happy snow and ice festival

how yu walk in this ice city?? special shoes??

It is not that slippery but it is soooooooooooooooo cold. Your feet will become senseless soon if you don't wear proper shoes. The common saying is that if you pee outside, you need to carry a stick with you to knock the ice off from your tool.

I slipped so many times when I went their to join that ice festival, but strange thing was that those people walked very well apart from 'outsiders' 'southerners' like me`lol

Ha we used to ride bikes on ice when we were kids to practice balance, a lot of bruises. I was once tricked to lick an iron bar, it still hurts when I think about it.

My home town also has ice carving not nothing like this scalewise. The reason Harbin is famous for this is the extreme cold temperature. It is so cold that when lake water freezes quickly, it traps very little air so the ice block remains crystal.

Boston Globe made the best pictures of this:

Amazing ice sculptures unveiled in China

Stunning ice sculptures have been lit up in a test before the start of a major festival
Crowds mingled among frozen artworks created for next month’s Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival in Harbin, China, where temperatures can plummet to -38C.

The Harbin festival features reproductions of some of the most iconic buildings in the world carved by thousands of workers from giant blocks of ice and snow.

45 coloured ice sculptures and large-scale landscapes along a 1,400 metre-long stretch, the China news agency Xinhua reported.

It added that one of the snow sculptures will recreate Marilyn Monroe's famous pose from the film The Seven Year Itch, in which she stood on a subway grate while her white dress is blown above her knees by a passing train.
