Two female lawmakers of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly have been fined for violating traffic rules in Peshawar, a private media outlet reported Saturday.

According to reports, a traffic cop served the ticket to MPA Falik Naz and her friend – also an MPA – for not wearing seatbelts while commuting via the Ring Road.

Despite showing their identity, the police officer issued challans worth Rs200. The car was being driven by one of the provincial lawmaker’s husband.

Both the parliamentarians belong to the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Traffic police have booked at least 50 parliamentarians on the Ring Road so far, an official told the media outlet.

1) Good they get chalan - Law is for everyone ...At least they didnt wiggle out as other Parliamentarians even have their friends calling them help them out of traffic crap
2) Stupid MPA dont know basic rules and are going to be making laws for us? THEY should be fined Rs 20,000 each of the 50 parliamentarians!
3) Silly women dont know that now they have a record to be traced to if anyone wishes to cry against them!
4) Why were the women fined if husband was driving? I thought the law in Pakistan issued fines for driver without seat belts....
5) WHY on earth cant they follow basic rules?

Tickets are very low in Pakistan. Should be increased atleast 5 times.

Now some will say “how is a poor rikshaw driver going to pay these fines then ?? Well. The whole point behind “fine strategy” is to demotivate people from doing wrongs. What is the value of 200 rupees in today time ? Nothing. So how is a person going to obey the law f he is not afraid of the consequences ?

Pakistani labor who work is UAE and KSA work for 900-1500 per month. But fines in UAE ranges from 300-700 for things like seatbelt, using mobile phine, crossing road on no crossing etc. The one ticket to them is 40-50% of their salary. So what they do ? They follow the rules.

Well, if he was wearing his seat belt then he cannot be fined for other passengers in the car. Here in Sweden also, all passengers above 18 years of age are responsible for themselves and they have to wear seat belts and in case, they don't, police will fine them directly and not the driver. However, the driver is responsible for passengers under the age of 18. BTW the fine here is 900 sek which equals PKR 13500.

personally i think seatbelt laws are pointless. Speeding, drunk driving endangers the public and other motorists on the road, but not wearing a seatbelt only endangers yourself. Same with not wearing a motorcycle/bike helmet. There are sone states in the us that are repealing such laws.

Nope, you're wrong

what do you mean? how does not wearing a seatbelt endanger OTHER motorists?
Well, do you know that you can't harm yourself as well and suicide and drugs are illegal in most of the world. Also a reckless driver can not only harm himself but co-passengers as well. Since it is more of self harm and that is why the fines and punishments are small.
