KP government allocates Rs.139 billion for education
Global Village Space |

The government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) has announced that it will increase its allocation for elementary and secondary education by 17 per cent which amounts to Rs.139bil, in the upcoming provincial budget 2017-18.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf seeks to upgrade the education system in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. This double as compared to the education budget during the time of ANP’s government which was Rs.61bn.

Not only has the KPK government left all other provinces behind but has set new standards of education in Pakistan. Last year, Punjab cut its education budget for the 9th consecutive year. For the 2016-17 education budget PTI had allocated Rs118bn, whereas as of April 2016, Punjab had only spent Rs14bn of their Rs32.8bn for the development of school education, it goes without saying that this is the reason why education indicators show little progress in Punjab. KP has recently flown of the charts in these indicators. Punjab is a densely populated province, the local government should be spending more on education rather than anything else.

Furthermore, K-P province has also implemented a new teacher hiring system called the National Teaching System (NTS). The need for this system was to overcome the slow process of inducting teachers, which was happening through the Provincial Services Commissions, as there was a dire need for teachers in educational institutes.

Through the NTS, approximately 40,000 teachers have been hired for boys’ and girls’ schools. The PTI government has promised to hire another 15,000 more teachers and that a recorded amount of Rs.800bn has been spent on their training.

Mr. Atif Khan, PTI education minister, blames the previous government for hiring inept teachers saying that it was done on the basis of favoritism and nepotism, which only caused harm to the education system.

He also revealed that the current K-P government instead of removing the existing teachers, has had them trained in the districts and that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the British Council for training a further 83,000 teachers.

A Dawn-Herald study conducted in 2014 showed that Education sector of KPK showed 70% more improvement than last year which was far more than any other province in Pakistan.

In addition, the World Bank in November of last year commended K-P government for being on top among all four federating units of Pakistan for making progress in different areas of human development.

Well one can Politically disagree with IK but "this is something". GoKP should also increase higher education budget to atleast 40 billion.

@Hell hound , @Mentee , @The Sandman ..
Na bhai for Pakistanis progress is roads, overpasses/underpasses not Hospitals, Schools or Uni's but thanks to Allah we've at least 1 leader who thinks for the future generations too!

Road's too are necessary, you can not avoid them but once should atleast do justice to Education and Health sector. On one side our Leader's claim that they have created a chain of high quality and modern hospitals across the country, still they Go London even for a routine medical checkup.

Even 139 Billion is peanut when you look at the return of investment in Education. I hope KP increases it's earnings so that we can increase our budget. atleast take it to 800 billion.

Imo I.k should establish an educational charity fund and Make an appeal for funds raising , especially to the overseas Pakistanis

He is doing this for Shaukat Khanum. still SKMH is recording 4 billion loss each year. He can not overburden the donors.

BTw there was such a thing, for Primary and high schools initiated by IK for KP schools.

Napster if I was in I.k's boots , would have atleast erected one medical and one engineering college's building in each district along with direct recruitment of as many dsp's and inspectors as I could . Moreover , a rightful demand from center to merge pms officers in federal service as per quota.

Another major step. though i think 100% primary schools should have co-education, not only in KP but through over Pakistan.

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet on Monday made a landmark decision to introduce coeducation at primary level in the province and declared that only women teachers would be appointed to primary schools in future.

“The government will establish schools where boys and girls can study together,” said adviser to the chief minister on information Mushtaq Ghani while giving details to the media about the cabinet’s meeting here.

Chief Minister Pervez Khattak chaired the meeting.

Mr. Ghani said the cabinet agreed with the proposal of the elementary and secondary education department to start co-education at the primary level.

He said new primary schools would be established in different areas, where girls and boys would be educated together. The coeducation system would be introduced in the current year, he added.

The CM’s adviser said the survey conducted in 2015-16 showed that 27 per cent girls went to the boys’ schools, while five per cent boys attended classes in the girls’ schools at the primary level.

“The coeducation system already exists at the primary level,” he said.

Mr. Ghani said another major decision of the cabinet was that women teachers would be appointed to primary schools for boys and girls.

He said the policy would be implemented gradually and that male teachers would be replaced with female ones in future.

“The study shows that women teachers perform better than men,” he said, adding that only women would be appointed to primary schools in future.

The CM’s adviser said the cabinet granted approval to the five years education sector plan (2015-20) for the promotion of primary and elementary education in the province.

He said under the plan, 100 per cent enrolment in primary schools would be carried out by 2022-23, which was presently 88 per cent at the preparatory level.

Mr. Ghani said the estimated cost of the plan was Rs592 billion.

He said under the plan, 50,248 teachers would be recruited in the next four years.

The CM’s adviser said more than 100,000 in-service teachers would be trained, while students from class 6 to class 10 would be given scholarships.

He said the cabinet also discussed arrangements for population census scheduled to begin on March 15.

The census commissioner briefed the cabinet about the upcoming exercise and KP has been divided into 22,000 blocks.

Mr. Ghani said the cabinet had some reservations about the population census process and that Chief Minister Pervez Khattak would discuss them with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

He said the census data from across the country would be shifted to Islamabad for counting and that a representative of the province would be present during the process.

The CM’s adviser said the cabinet approved the ‘aerial reforestation’ in different parts of the province.

He said 15 tons seeds would be dropped from helicopters during the spring tree plantation campaign beginning on Feb 10.

“The aerial reforestation is part of the PTI government’s signature ‘Billion Trees Tsunami’ project under which one billion trees will be planted by the end of 2018,” he said.

Mr. Ghani said 500 million saplings had been planted so far and the rest would be planted during the stipulated period.

He said 200 million additional trees would also be planted.

The cabinet also ordered necessary amendments to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Forest Development Fund (Management and Utilisation) Rules 2006 and decided the unfreezing of 30 per cent of special allowance of the secretariat employees frozen by the finance division in June 2016.

Bhai is Qoam ki mentality jab tak change nahe hoti . Politician's isi tarha Phudu lagaty rahn gy.

Bhai mera to dil krta hai ke 50-70% GDP in 2 sectors mein lgaye gov but aisa kahan hona hai :/

it should be the Part of constitution that no matter what, Education budget GDP ka 3% rako gay he rakho gay.

Bhai boht ache bat hay har district me aik medical university or aik medical college. Par kahan se kary ? KP's total budget is only 505 billion. KP can not afford such initiatives. for this KP should first increase it's earnings and bring it's budget to atleast 700 billion. But still they are doing great.

A single Fachhochschule university with help of Austria in Haripur will cost KP government 10+ billion. do the math.

CM khattak in 2015 announced such Project. but fund's kahan hay ?

College or universities?

This is huge amount, do we have any idea where it goes? Punjab education budget is only 2 times more but population 4-5.

colleges affiliated with some medical or engineering university . this practice would save some extra bucks
Na u didnt get my meaning, im asking whether are suggesting colleges like the west where they offer undergraduate programs or r u talking about inter level colleges...
