Yup, its true but there are some consideration why KFX program still do that:

1. It will complicate the project if the program use internal weapon bay as both Korea and Indonesia dont have experience on that technology, but final design has a space for internal weapon bay which will be used for loading missile for KFX block 2, it is why the design is a bit fatter compared to 4 generation fighter.

2. There is a need for Indonesian Airforce to have long range fighter, thus it needs hard points for external fuel tank.

If the project is successful and Indonesia is still in the program (there is renegotiation going on), I believe Indonesia and South Korea dont have problem with selling the jet to Vietnam, but the engine is still US made so it depends on your relation with US.



It has similarity with F22 design but overall it is still a different design.

Not really. Su-57 is halfway between F-22 and YF-23.

With the end of Cold War, there was no need to spend so much on defense. That's why YF-22 was chosen over YF-23.
