Can it fire ballistic and cruise missiles ?

It is the Soryu Class Diesel electric submarine fitted with AIP.The Zuiryu is the fifth boat of this class with a total of 10 planned.

It cannott fire Ballistic missiles. Do Carries anti ship missiles but no land attack cruise or ballistic missile. in future is Japan can make some upgrade to fit in some tube launched land attach cruise missile from the Torpedo tube that it will get land attack capability but as of now, NO!

A beautiful lady she is!!! May she serve the JMSDF well for years to come, and with good graces may she never have to bear her fangs in anger. Nuke boats may get much of the glory, but its the diesel electrics that are the true terror of the deep. The Type 209, Kilo, Soryu, each gives US, Chinese and Russia sailors nightmares. May Japan continue along it's path of peaceful coexistence with its neighbors so that the world may never come to witness the awesome might that has been bestowed upon Japan

From a noise perspective you may find it to be a step ahead of your American allies. While we take pride in our Virginia's and their more capable cousin the Seawolfs, US sailors will mention that the German 209's are quieter than our ships, I suspect the Soryu's are similar in their capabilities to the best our German friends can muster.
