U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter and his Japanese counterpart, Minister of Defense Gen Nakatani, announced today in New York they’re steadily implementing the relocation of U.S. Marine troops from Okinawa to Guam and other locations outside Japan, the U.S. State Department announced.

Carter and Nakatani, and the foreign affairs heads of the two countries, made the announcement as they reached new defense guidelines to broaden their cooperation from regional to global, the Defense Department announced.

The world has changed much since 18 years ago, Carter stated in a video of the announcement released by the Pentagon.

Defense Department Media Activity reporter Jim Garamone, in an exclusive interview with Nakatani, quotes the Japan defense minister as having said: “The scope of our cooperation will also include new strategic areas such as space and cyberspace.”

Nakatani sees more exercises between the Air Self-Defense Force, the U.S. Air Force and the Australian Air Force, in addition to U.S.-Japan air defense exercises off Guam and Australia, Defense Department Media Activity reports.

GOOD. As i said, Japan is still the ONLY/MAIN country in Asia who has the capabiliities to match China in any field. Since Japan is very advanced(still the most advanced/developed country in Asia overall), and has a very Potent/capable Navy etc. So reason the U.S values its relationship with Japan more than it does with ANY OTHER ASIAN country. Since Japan is the main pillar of U.S asian pivot alias China containment. Will be interesting to see how things play out these coming decades. Cant wait. A sort of House of cards is about to start in Asia.:bunny::usflag:
