Which is a fair point. But for fair reciprocation, China should leave its bases in the Spratly island groups. Most particularly the big air base built on top of Mischeif Reef. This reef is almost a 1000 km away from China mainland and this reef is inside the EEZ zone of the Philippines. So who is causing the greater degree of violation here? If Japan obeys an international construct that is horrifically violated by other major powers, then it would just make Japan a sucker. So get out of Mischief Reef, along with Fiery Cross Reef and Subi Reef, then I think Japan would warm a little to taking away its EEZ claim at Okinotorishima.
Again not entirely true. Yes, Mischief reef is 1,000km away from Mainland China and within Philippine's EEZ. However Mischief reef is also within TaiPing Dao EEZ. What does UNCLOS say you can do within your EEZ ? Countries all over the world reclaim land from the sea everywhere so long it is within the country's EEZ. So what land reclaim China does on Mischief is within international law since Mischief reef lies within TaiPing Dao EEZ. But Mischief reef is also within Philippines EEZ. So what do you do ? You negotiate a middle line between Taiping dao and Philippine's Pahlawan Island. And guess what, Mischief reef still lies nearer to TaiPing Dao. So again China is following international law and Japan is not.
Well do not take my word. Go do some research yourself. Go look at the map of Spratly island.
