Yes, in a naval exercise, IN provides the required platforms to act as an aggressor for Japan to train against, mimicking Chinese navy.

Both the IN and JMSDF could hold this in the East China Sea or Sea of Japan. Healthy, peaceful, training...

2014 Exercise Malabar was the first time our navies had a naval exercise together. I hope 2015 will see more of our ships working together.

Current modern DDG almost cost more than 1billion $, Navy is the most expensive military force.
U need a lot of money to build strong DDG Fleets, $$$ is the KEY.

If I remember it correctly, the Zumwalt-class was designed to play the role the WW2-era battleship had done from the end of WW2 to the last days of the 1991 Gulf War and that is naval fire support although I am not sure how effective the Zumwalt will be in this role if compared to the obsolete but somewhat "still effective" battleship guns in terms of naval offshore bombardment even though the US Navy have been testing railguns and scramjet munitions.

Maybe the JS Fuyuzuki has better missiles suitable for such purpose.

Well someone made a comparison of the two ships, thus I have posted that above.

I guess this new JMSDF ship is the beginning of a Japanese carrier fleet or something but smaller.

we need japanese navy to work with and vice versa. we have laid the foundations..the fruits will be up in due time.

i wish we could buy 6 soryus complete with AIPs, remember we bought some harpoons. i'm sure we could work it out with US to keep the tech current. on the ships.

make 100 rafales in france save atleast $3 billlion, add some, buy 4 of soryus. once we taste it, we'll buy 4 more.

learn how to make a ssn till then. lots of subs at our disposal. joint ventures with japs. win win or what !!!

I just wish we had same level of industrial support to our defence forces as Japanese counterparts have. But our defense.forces are also responsible for this dire situation. There are few of the defence wings who are really bad and employ media as a tool for good fame. Some them Indian airforce, DRDO(only some of their wings have good performance and that's too also with jugaad), Hindustan shipyard limited, MD, Kochin shipyard. Which orgnisations(wings) are good in my opinion are Indian army navy coast guard, paramilitary, goa shipyard, GRSE, ISRO, BARC. Our airforce is white elephant and that I am claiming from my personal experience. They are not efficient and can't use full power with synergy. In small units they are good but that is where it ends. MDL, KOCHIN SHIPYARD, DRDO, HAL, HINDUSTAN SHIPYARD, they are just killing competition and reaping the benefits. Thank you.

Imagine how a Kaijo Jieitai Combined Strike Fleet would look like. Centered on the 2 Izumo Class, the 2 Hyuga Class Light Carriers. And surrounding them the 4 Atago Class Guided Missile Destroyer, the 4 Kongo Class Guided Missile Destroyer, the 4 Akizuki Class Guided Missile Destroyer (+2), the 5 Takanami Class Guided Missile Destroyer, the 2 Hatakaze Class Guided Missile Destroyer, the 9 Murasame Class Guided Missile Destroyer, the 8 Asagiri Class Guided Missile Destroyer, the 12 Hatsuyuki Class Guided Missile Light Destroyer. In close support would be the 2 Shirane Class Destroyers, and the 2 Haruna Class Destroyers.

In Flanking support, would be some 22 Soryu and Oyashio Class subs interspersed around the fleet. Then imagine, on top of our Light Carriers would be the feared F-35BIIs.

To the untrained eye, it would seem as if the Nihon Kaigun Rengo Kantai (Combined Fleet of the Imperial Japanese Navy) has been resurrected....
