I keep wondering, about time we began to push more of the engine designs here. We have had some successes (I believe Kirloskar has developed Marine engines?'. The fact that we can't design even 1500 HP engines (like for the Arjun) really is a shame.

Well we don't have indigenous engine for locomotives as well.Anyway KOEL's marine engines DAIHATSU developed. There was an indigenous engine project for Arjun,God knows what happened to it.

I heard the first try resulted in an underpowered engine, I think it gave some 800 BHP or something. This was during Mk1. And then I heard they were planning one for Mk2. Didn't hear about that afterwards. I don't think not building an engine is optional for us. During wartime we'll bleed dry of spares. I think eventually a lot of ships will get the KMGT. I have a lot of faith in that project.

Excellent! This is what we need. To export heavy industrial vehicles, machinery, electric equipment and even power plants.
Our engineering firms need to increase orders from abroad and become more export oriented. Perhaps NaMo can give tax breaks to new manufacturers and use this as a PR opportunity to countries that have interest in MAKE IN INDIA campaign.

Development of 1500 hp Engine: As a part of the ‘National Mission’ for the development of military engines, a project for ‘development of 1500 hp engine’ for next generation main battle tank (NGMBT) has been taken up by DRDO. During the year 2014, the first milestone of conceptual design by DRDO was successfully completed.
