After its successful Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) have had been in news lately for all the good reasons. What new we are hearing about this research organization now is that soon their technology would be used to keep a watch on illegal sand mining happening in the country.
This information was recently revealed by Prakash Javadekar, minister of environment, forests and climate change, at the Janata Darbar held in Pune. He said, "The technology is available with ISRO and we are organizing a workshop in Delhi where we will provide details about a plan that will use satellite maps of every river to check the activities of the sand mafia."

He further told reporters that to execute it seamlessly, "...the state revenue officials who are in-charge of the sand mining activities would be educated on the ISRO technology (which will be used) in a workshop to be held on March 27 this year and each state will prepare its own plan based on the satellite images."

There is also a possibility of the government roping in few private sector firms into the initiative. While no more details are known about how and when ISRO would start the work, we hope that they sprung into action soon and prevent deaths of honest and hardworking IAS officials like former Kolardeputy commissioner D.K. Ravi, whose recent death has triggered nation-wide protests in Karnataka and elsewhere in the country.

yay!!!! GOOD NEWS MAN :yahoo::woot::wave::dance3::yay:

Just monitoring is not enough, the question is will government take any strong action against illegal miners like their allies in Punjab (Badals).
Badals making crores from illegal mining: Bains brothers

That's what I want to highlight.

Punjab seems to be fed up with the SAD party and its corrupt dynastic leaders. I don't understand why Modi doesn't go at it alone in Punjab stationing Sidhu or someone else as a candidate for CM. Sidhu might be talkative but he's respected sportsman and has a cleaner public image than the Badals.

Not to mention, the vast Yamuna-Ganga basin sand mafia that makes crores with illegal silt mining across the entire length and breadth of UP. These guys have tough connections with multiple MLAs of different parties; especially the current gono government of that state.

Monitoring will not do anything. And neither will publicised arrests which means that these miners just dial their local political pooch, get bail papers and then get cleared due to 'lack of witnesses or proof' and then resume their business.

You want to stop illegal mining, then take action like PLA. Not like Indian police.

Exactly illegal mining is pandemic in India due weak laws & Police/political nexus. It is even going on near international border.
BSF team detects illegal mining near border
