The recent Islamic Summit in Saudi Arabia was a tragic reminder of how weak and deeply divided the Muslim countries are today. A glance at the agenda of the conference conveyed the impression that it was meant to place Iran in the dock. It also highlighted several other painful aspects of the weaknesses of the member countries. Take any critical criteria — economic independence, political evolution and social cohesion — it is generally absent or undergoing a critical phase in most of these countries. Despite being endowed by enormous natural resources in terms of oil wealth, rare minerals and strategic location, these countries lack the ability to exploit the natural advantages without foreign assistance. By not prioritising the modern education, they have failed to develop a scientific and technological base necessary for acquiring a certain level of autonomy. Many rank high in defence spending but are hardly in a position to defend their countries without the support of one or the other major power. The power elite in quite a few of these countries has to draw strength from major powers to survive. Interdependence, no doubt is an essential element of globalisation but the dependence of some Muslim countries is not a part of that phenomenon and is dictated by considerations of regime survival. It is essentially meant for holding on to power by using foreign crutches as opposed to building trust and gaining support of the people. They need to look inwards rather than outwards for support. Foreign dependence has a price as major powers extract concessions that weigh heavily in their favour.

Only few Muslim countries can claim to be democratic or semi-democratic. Apart from Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia and Pakistan, most are monarchies or dictatorships. Even the ones that profess to be democratic like us have fragile democratic structures with power residing elsewhere.

The most disturbing aspect is the current Iran-Saudi conflict that has far-reaching adverse consequences for the Muslim Ummah. It has several dimensions — sectarian rivalry, power projection to assert dominance in the region and an arena of world powers rivalry. The worst casualty of this enmity has been the people of Yemen. Syria, Iraq and Lebanon are also a battleground of these two regional rivals causing incalculable misery to their people.

What is most distressing is that the struggle of Palestinians and Kashmiris has been pushed in the background. For the Arab countries, the immediate and foremost challenge is to counter the influence of Iran for which they are prepared to set aside their decades-long hostility toward Israel to target a common adversary. This has allowed Israel to blatantly suppress the Palestinian cause and commit flagrant violations of human rights. It has further emboldened the US to put pressure on Iran by squeezing its economy and building a ring around it of hostile countries. Despite these efforts, the US has not succeeded in toppling the regime although it has weakened it. This is not to acknowledge that Iran is fully supportive of its proxies in several of the Middle Eastern countries and needs to substantially alter its policies to create an atmosphere of trust and goodwill.

The case of Kashmir is not very different in which India is brazenly throttling the Kashmiris’ fundamental right to self-determination. With the exception of Turkey and maybe one or two other countries, none has raised its voice for the beleaguered Kashmiris. It is not difficult to comprehend as India enjoys a special relationship with most of the Muslim countries and has a large Indian community working for them. India has invested in the Chabahar port of Iran as a counter to China’s heavy investment in Gwadar and had posited it as the New Silk route. It is a different matter that the potential of this route is less in comparison to Gwadar.

Another tragedy facing the Muslims is the cruel way Burmese security forces have been carrying out a campaign of ethnic cleansing against Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine state. The OIC’s response on this matter was muted. The public statements issued after the conference are generally repetitive of previous years and are hardly inspiring.

Despite this harsh reality, PM Imran Khan maintained the tradition of raising these issues and getting them included in the final communiqué. But none really expect it to make any difference.

The Iran-Arab rivalry provides the US and other major arms-producing countries an opportunity to sell their arms and promote their defence industries. Although, in most of the cases, the ability to use these sophisticated weapon systems remains limited — albeit with gradual improvement. The militaries of the UAE, Jordan and Egypt, however, maintain high professional standards and rely mostly on the West for weapons and equipment. Iran having been subjected to severe sanctions after the Islamic revolution has developed a comprehensive indigenous defence industrial capability. Moreover, the strength of its armed forces and Revolutionary Guards lies essentially in their high level of motivation. This is not to overlook that the continuing American pressure is taking its toll.

The critical question is how this confrontation would play out. Indications are that the clouds of war and direct confrontation between the US and Iran have receded despite John Bolton’s and Benjamin Netanyahu’s lobbying for it. President Trump’s decision of revoking the nuclear agreement with Iran was against the basic principles of international law. If the US had any misgivings about the treaty, it should have engaged in dialogue with Iran instead of unilaterally taking a hard and irreversible position. Tehran too should refrain from adopting policies that give rise to distrust. America does not depend on Persian Gulf and natural gas but its allies do. Any aggressive move by America’s Fifth Fleet or aggression by Iran could trigger a serious response and lead to confrontation. It rests entirely on the regional powers and the US to exercise restraint and steer the region out of crisis.

Kashmiri hindu pandits were cleansed from the valley by Kashmiri Muslims, and they become refugees in their own country and india couldn't do anything.

Yet, indians think posting idiotic articles from "Express Tribune" (only if indians knew what a joke ET is taken to be in Pakistan) will give any validation to their perpetual inferiority-complex

Fact is, Kashmir is locked into a status quo where india can not go beyond a certain threshold when it comes to its barbarity. OIC and Islamic world keep Kashmir issue in focus internationally, and indians are forced to abide by Muslim sensitivities on the issue.

Can you imagine Pakistan being SO cucked where lets say local Hindus or Christians "cleansed" a certain region of Pakistan from Muslims and we could not do anything against it?:omghaha: Even thinking about such scenario is making me laugh bc its impossible. Yet, india is so confined and restricted that precisely this happened in Kashmir and indian hindu establishment couldn't do much about it for decades.

Meanwhile, Pakistan and Muslim world keeps Kashmir issue alive in the diplomatic memory of the world (precisely what we want).

I would not bet on this please. ( Bold part above) . The new Govt has already made its first move.

no ummah exists today. muslim countries are weak , submissive and in total disarray. no leadership , no guidance nothing.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Ohhh I'm scared. :lol::lol::lol:

india is a weak state that is already carved into pieces due to superior civilizations of Islam and Europe ruling over it for thousand+ years.

It has been decades since Kashmiri Hindu pandits were cleansed from their own land and you couldn't do anything about it. Hell, even after a complete Modi term, the issue is STILL not addressed. Such level of weakness and cuckoldry is expected of beaten down, dominated, and inferior india.

Kashmir valley will remain Muslim-majority (regardless of hindu pandit issues), and india would not go beyond a certain threshold when it comes to using force in Kashmir. indian hindutva cries, moans, bitches, and gets frustrated about Islam----but Islam continues to grow all over india while ancient hindu lands of S.Asia under Islamic rule keep getting less and less hindu.

And this goes on while the world focusses on Kashmir issue, mentions and talks about Kashmir as a flashpoint, and OIC and gigantic Muslim world make sure its Kashmir that's talked about, and not the fact that hindus are dying minorities in their ancient homelands

Shows you who has the real power. But yeah, keep sharing "Express tribune" articles

You sure about that? :)

Yes. Read above

india is a weak, dominated state that can not even take back what is rightfully its historically (lands of Pakistan, Bangladesh, parts of Afghanistan, and even parts of Indonesia). A far more powerful civilization---global civilization of Islam---has conquered and colonized these lands permanently. Poor indian hindus suffering from deep inferiority complex can only cry (like they always do).....but world only remembers Kashmir (thanks to global reach of Islamic world) and not Kashmiri pandits :D

Meanwhile, hindus keep decreasing as a percentage of population even in their last remaining homeland (india). Already under 80% threshold. But hey, atleast you re-named Allahabad to whatever sh!t hindu name

Here's a fun fact for you: There is not one, not even ONE, major city in the world that is 90% or more hindu. By major city, I mean city with atleast 1 million residents. Most of india's largest cities are 20-25% non-hindu already.

Meanwhile, in Pakistan---the largest city of Karachi with 16-20 million people is 97% Muslim. Such level of concentration and cultural domination is enjoy by Islam not only in Pakistan, but world over! While hindus are destined to be mere 75% in their ONLY remaining homeland of india :agree:

Ooof.

It does not matter if the region of Kashmir of the Indian state of J&K remains Muslim majority for thats how it always was. As regards the threshold , I wonder if you have been following threads here , there is one on delimitation. Suggest peruse it & its implications.
OIC and gigantic Muslim World

Given its internal dissensions , the OIC should stand for " Other Irrelevant Countries".

Come back when the " Gigantic Muslim World ' comes to a consensus on sighting of the moon.

A fun fact

8 % Muslims voted for Modi

PS : I am no fan of him or any other Politician for that matter

See, even YOU are so thoroughly defeated and mentally colonized that you write the words "Kashmir was always a Muslim majority region" :) Sure, it was....

Poor beaten down indians see history through Islamic lense and not their own.

OIC is far, far, far more relevant and powerful than india. OIC is suprior to india in every measurable way (whether its wealth, trade, global influence, control of resources, cultural reach, geographic spread, combined military prowess, or demographic weight on world stage etc etc).

Its funny you mention moon sighting as some sort of argument. The very issue of disunity when it comes to moon sighting is precisely due to the fact that Islam has grown SO big and SO global (Mashallah). There wouldn't be any issue if Islam had only remained within Arabian peninsula.....(like the irrelevant hindu religion remains only within indian subcontinental peninsula)

A fun fact

8 % Muslims voted for Modi

PS : I am no fan of him or any other Politician for that matter

Utterly irrelevant to what I stated. Why you even mentioned it? Looool

Poor beaten down indians see history through Islamic lense and not their own.

India & its history existed even before the first man converted to Islam. Unlike others , we do not have any quams in accepting facts & our census reports show that the region of Kashmir has a higher Muslim population. So, whats the fuss ?

How can anyone compare " Other irrelevant Countries" to a nation ?

Come back when Iran & KSA see eye to eye, when the Shia - Sunni divide reduces ( it will never finish) . Thats when the OIC ' may' become relevant. Till then its a club thats controlled by the West.

Read this thread below , the 'Gigantic' state of Pakistan ( which possibly has multiple time zones )cannot agree on if they have seen the moon . One state sees it on one day while the ' Rest of Pakistan ' sees it on another !!

Its not an argument, I am sorry if I conveyed the wrong impression . Its a statement of fact that brings out fundamental differences which manifests at the macro level.

Read above
Not interested in blabla bullshit.:enjoy: Reality says otherwise, no other state in India lives in constant blackouts of all kind. Road blocks, deaths of favorite 'icons'. All they got is a weak state supposedly supporting them, but they themselves are running out of money and looking for loans from sharks.

 Oh I see is a nice organization of coffee club arabs and their subjects. You couldn't even get the Saudis to put a declaration condemning India. While the Arabis are busy handing out highest civilian honors to Modi. The supposed Muslim mass murderer. Says a lot about the collective-ness of Oh I see.
