LAHORE:
Five Punjab University (PU) students and a deputy warden had to be taken to the hospital after they were beaten by nearly two dozen allegedly Islami Jamiat Taliba (IJT) men in Hostel No 7 for protesting against the organisation.

Sharukh, a student in the Philosophy Department, said some twenty IJT activists entered the hostel looking for the Philosophy Department who had organised an anti-IJT protest during the week. Ten students were dragged out of their rooms and subjected to a beating.

As they sped out, the hooligans were stopped by the superintendent and the deputy superintendent. They misbehaved with both, injuring the deputy superintendent and an attendant. Later, some of them fired some shots in the air. PU Vice Chancellor Mujahid Kamran, on Sunday afternoon, visited the hostel and advised the students to stay united and not be intimidated.

Five students, Shahid Ali Khan, Shahrukh, Syed Kashif, Mazhar, Ishaq Ahmad, attendant Mumtaz Manj and deputy superintendent, Hassan Siddiqui, were taken to Jinnah Hospital for treatment.

Shahrukh said that the IJT activists had brutally thrashed his fellow students. He said that four men had fired shots to scare students away. One of the bullets, the student said, had ricocheted and injured the deputy warden. He added that one of the men had pointed a gun at Prof Shahid Gul.

Shahrukh said that they had made several calls to Rescue 15 and the Muslim Town police station but no help was provided.

Another student, Shahid Ali said there had been no improvement in security around the hostel. He said that IJT activists were now threatening them with dire consequences unless they leave PU. He said no concrete action had been taken against IJT thugs in Punjab University to curb their hooliganism.

Twelve days back a student from the Philosophy Department was beaten by two IJT activists for coming to university on a Saturday when the university was closed. A few days later another student of the department was beaten for speaking to female students. Later, a protest organised by female students and faculty members was intercepted by IJT activists who tried to forcibly stop the rally.

Dance and BH, you guys just don't miss the chance to lambast the mullaa, a word you can't even spell properly.

You're lucky yourselves you probably haven't really studied in Pakistani public higher institutions. Do you know how much these offshoots of our political parties i.e. sophisticated gangsters, these are violent? This one just made the news because the party has Islaamii in its name. If you'd ever get the opportunity to rub shoulders with them, you'll find how far removed from being 'Islaamii' their actions could be.

Sir, while I have not studied in Pakistan's higher education system, I know there is a certain amount of political activism in colleges (universities). I know plenty of kids at Karachi University, & those kids were gripped into politics & members of various political parties. I also know there are some gangster kids in other colleges in Lahore. I am also aware of the Tablighi Jamaat in various colleges, especially UET Lahore & others, & the calls for "Dawa". My point being, there is no indication that suggest these kids from Punjab University threatened the Islami Jamiat Taliba, they just criticized them peacefully. They didn't cause them physical harm, only protested peacefully. I know for a fact that these Mullah zealots have very short tempers, & resort to physicality & violence at even the smallest issues.

:S are you retarded, this is called university politics yaar, where mullah comes into pictures, grow up

APMSO is the biggest thug in karachi uni, do you know???

What are you trying to say?

Are you defending a bunch of losers who beat up students?

And yes IJT are a bunch of mullahs.

So let me guess here. One group beat the hell out of other group because they are anti each other. :azn:

they had a dispute over something so they fought, this is not the problem, they are exploited by political parties no doubt about it, however, the core issue lies in social segregation, IJT consist of people that come from backward rural areas, they find it hard to fill the social gap between the urban students and themselves, this leads to sense of loss, and are not adopted by the urban students, or day scholars, consequently their only refuge is Jamiyat, where they feel safe, but in fact get stuck in a organized student union politically manipulated, jamiyat has produced a number of politicians/badmash of low category, it has given plateforum to local level political workers/union/tehseel level politicians, it has also given plateforum to finest men like Javed Hashmi, not to mention other names... it has also protected girls from professors unethical demands, student rights, and security when university fell short on it... however no wrong doing can be justified by the very organization, it has to take the blame...it is jamiyat of jamat-e-islami that did this...and they should be punished for it...

just like many associate bad happenings to Satan, many like to blame everything on mullah...its senseless actually...

The saddest thing is they called the police but no one came. this time it was IJT but how many times is it the goon squads of other political parties waving guns and beating up people and the police dont come or just stand arround and watch.

All the people that have hope for the election that think Imran Kahn will be the new hope for Pakistan look arround you, while political debate is censored by the knife and the gun you will never have free elections.

police is not allowed by law to enter University premises unless VC calls himself....

despite the bad conditions we living in our country, have our all stakes and interests here, cannot and will not surrender to odds...
