Is India really capable of building a 5th gen fighter

agree, its a non starter to develop everything in house and delay the project by another 10-15 years. We tried to develop everything for Tejas and we know how that turned out.
The only real way is for individual private companies specialising in one particular aspect of an aircraft ie radar components. That company refines and SELLS PROFITABLY radar GAN modules. Not the whole radar just the GAN modules made with the highest efficiency and COMPETETIVE COST to supply to other radar makers. Its specialization is just GAN . Everything to do with GAN .
Others then integrate these wide range of specialist products into a aircraft that then possess the best of all the different aspects of a plane.
Anyone that tries to do everything inhouse ends up as HAL.
A broken barely functioning company , always late , always way above initial costings, and a product that is disappointing at best.

Let the deliveries of MK IA start in Feb 24. That would lay the path forward. A lot is at stake over these deliveries.

Making AMCA wouldn’t be a small task. It wouldn’t be a bad idea either to take help from friendlies in critical areas.

Learn from China. They stole, copied and used all the means to lay hands on various technologies and have achieved self sufficiency. We may not follow that kind of undignified path but collaborate and get the job done.

Our Babus don't know how to be cunning, literally everyone takes them for a ride from Russians, Americans, French, to even British.

Even the OEM doesn't care about their IP rights as much as our babus do.

We are both extremely risk averse and extremely prideful to take anyone's help at the same time.
And if by some miracle we do take foreign help we don't think cunningly and not do we plan long term and thus throw away that foreign help due to our prideful nature.

Exhibit 1
I am still unable to understand why in the world did we let Kurt Tank go, we had a golden goose at our hand and we just threw it away because nobody planned long term.

Exhibit 2
At the start of the Ukraine war we had the chance to poach Ukranian engineers, but we didn't, why nobody knows.
I bet you a lot of these Ukranian engineers are going to pop-up in turkey in the near future and they will have a jet engine before us.
