What a twisted logic...... so in order to prove himself a true muslim ,he has to become a religious fanatic ,is it ? ...
Kalam is a visionary,philosopher and scientist , he is a recluse ....and he considers himself a muslim.....no one should be permitted to judge whether a person is a "true muslim " or not.....leave this judgement to Allah.....

The definition of Muslim given by Dr Rafiq Zakaria himself :

"A Muslim is one who declares publicly: 'There is no God but God
and Muhammad is His Prophet.' He must also accept that Muhammad
is the last of God's prophets on this earth..... A Muslim must
also accept the Quran as the word of God, immutable and
unalterable; it contains guidelines which a Muslim must follow."

I am afraid, Dr Kalam has kept himself completely away from
Muslims; he refused to mix with them and even when invited to
participate in their nationalistic activities, he politely
declined. As chairman of the All-India Khilafat Committee I
requested him to be the chief guest at the mammoth Prophet’s
birthday celebrations in Mumbai, which is attended by more than
ten lakh Muslims every year, but he refused. This was, in fact,
started by Gandhiji in the wake of the Khilafat and the Non-
Cooperation Movement in 1921 to promote Hindu-Muslim unity.

Secondly,all that I can see is he kept himself away from religious movements,and did not let himself being misused by any religious body just for his religion.He is Scientist,and a scientist has other things to worry about rather than doing the job of a mullah.......

The attitude of many people on this forum is disgusting. This tendency to get into a competition of who is more pure Muslim, who is more true Muslim, who is a pious Muslim - this is what takes dangerous forms and manifests itself as terrible violence.

I am born into a Hindu family, but I avoid all religious functions - I just detest going for any prayers or "Pooja". Still, I call myself a Hindu, and no one thinks of questioning it either. Can't you people just let someone be, and practice their faith as they see fit? So he didn't go to some religious function. So WHAT? Maybe he hates religious ceremonies, maybe he was too busy, maybe....

By the way, what is your opinion of Shias and Ahmadiya Muslims? In your esteemed opinion, are they "true Muslims" or not?

True muslims they are not as per Islamic scripture, because they beleive in other imams beside Prophet Muhamad, which makes them less than true muslims. Read Shahada first.

Thats what he follows so He does not need to mix up or attend meetings to prove himself a Musilim.

Are you saying this about APJ KALAM??, SOURCES??

Anyhow APJ Kalam is great man, he thinks above religious grounds and portrays an image of indian first.
He talks about real issue of corruption, economic change, development,poverty and education..NEVER EVER about religion and if you could think about it more rationally, its great quality of his.
