The Iranian hero pilot, who recently landed his malfunctioning plane safely, has launched an internet campaign to counter Western sanctions against Iran's public air transportation sector, Press TV reports.

“In my website I have asked all my fellow countrymen to sign a petition against such an inhumane action [imposing sanction],” Houshang Shahbazi told Press TV on Tuesday.

More than 250 thousand people have endorsed the campaign to eliminate of unilateral US sanctions on Iran's civilian aviation in less than a month.

“They are putting our people's lives in danger and depriving them of safety... according to human rights conventions there are certain areas where sanctions do not apply even during the state of war. Flight safety for ordinary citizens is one of them,” Shahbazi said.

Condemning human rights organization inaction on the sanctions imposed against Iranian airlines where “the worst violation of human rights is taking place,” Shahbazi added, “I think that the US wants to extend its will of power from the United Nations to other international organizations with the help of its allies.”

For nearly three decades, the US government and major American companies have ignored international treaties by preventing Iran from buying new aircraft and necessary spare plane parts.

Captain Shahbazi saved the lives of 94 passengers and 19 crewmembers on October 18, 2011. The hero pilot landed his IranAir Boeing 727, which had arrived from Moscow, despite its front wheel having failed.
