An Iranian court has convicted an American man of working for the CIA and sentenced him to death, state radio reported Monday.

Iran charges that as a former U.S. Marine, Amir Mirzaei Hekmati received special training and served at U.S. military bases in Iraq and Afghanistan before heading to Iran for his alleged intelligence mission.

The radio report did not say when the verdict was issued. Under Iranian law, he has 20 days to appeal.
Hekmati, 28, was born in Arizona. His family is of Iranian origin. His father, who lives in Michigan, said his son is not a CIA spy and was visiting his grandmothers in Iran when he was arrested.

The U.S. State Department has demanded his release.

The court convicted him of working with a hostile country, belonging to the CIA and trying to accuse Iran of involvement in terrorism, Monday's report said.

Iran sentences American to death for spying -  News

America saves your fishermen and Iran jails and condemns to death our people for visiting their relatives or hiking in a neighboring country.

America did nothing special but its moral and international obligations to counter piracy in international waters,If the USA hadn't done that we would've condemned the USA for that, but now it has done what it is expected to do and if a similar case happens again the USA has obligations to do the same. so does Iranian navy have obligations to save other countries' fishermen upon request to save them from the pirates. That doesn't mean we should forgive a CIA spy for that.

Iran also saved a lot of ships from pirates, so? It doesnt have anything to do with spies execution. Its funny how CIA asset who openly admitted he was send to infiltrate Iran, is just "visiting relatives" or a "hiker". Another CIA ring busted recently were probably just a "tea party", right? :azn:

Why are you mixing pears and apples? If a person breaks the law in the land they are in then expect to be punished according to the laws of the land. If you are spying AGAINST your fatherland for the enemy - what do you want the Iranians to do? -Allow him to walk away? He has committed treason and has been found guilty - he now suffers the consequences. If someone visits your land you would expect them to obey the laws of the land? Why do you always seperate laws for Iran? Why are your laws better than the rest?

Iran at least provided trial for traitor working for CIA, while US doesnt even bother with trials - either they hold suspects indefinitely and torture them outside of law - both US and International, or they just execute them - like recent Al-Qaeda member US-citizen. Obama didnt ordered his capture, didnt asked for his trial - no, he ordered his execution just like that.

Therefore its ironic how some posters from US come here and try condemn execution of convicted traitor in another country.

:hitwall: Iran is so out of sync with the rest of the world.

I don't think you are right here mate. Not all the countries allow dual citizenship including the UK. For example, you'd renounce your British citizenship on becoming an American citizen. Even countries like China, Japan, India don't grant you dual citizenship.
