TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Iran's supreme leader vowed Wednesday he will not allow international inspection of Iran's military sites or access to Iranian scientists under any nuclear agreement with world powers.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei told military commanders Wednesday that Iran will resist "coercion and excessive demands" from America and other world powers.

Negotiators from Iran and a six nation group - the U.S., Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany - have launched a new round of talks in Vienna focused on reaching a final deal that curbs Iran's nuclear program in return for lifting economic sanctions. The two sides reached a framework agreement in March and hope to strike a final deal by June 30.

A fact sheet on the framework accord issued by the U.S. State Department said Iran would be required to grant the U.N. nuclear agency access to any "suspicious sites."

But Khamenei indicated that the Americans are increasing their demands that international inspection of Iran's military sites and interviews with Iranian scientists be included in the final deal.

"The impudent and brazen enemy expects that we allow them talk to our scientists and researchers about a fundamental local achievement but no such permission will be allowed," Khamenei told military commanders in Tehran Wednesday, in remarks broadcast on state TV. "No inspection of any military site or interview with nuclear scientists will be allowed."

Khamenei said interviewing Iranian nuclear scientists would be an affront to Iran's dignity.

"I will not allow foreigners to interview - which is tantamount to interrogation - the prominent beloved scientists and sons of this nation," he said.

Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior adviser to Khamenei, was quoted by Iranian media this week as accusing the Americans of changing their position and toughening their stance as the deadline approaches.

"They insist on crossing (our) red lines. This turns into an obstacle," Velayati was quoted as saying.

There goes the P5 + 1 nuclear deal and with it Chabahar and India's access to Central Asia.

I guess we'll have to settle for better prices for the railroad thing and sweet exploration offers to Indian companies again. :P

-------------------------------------------------

these mullahs are crazy, they are already pretty isolated, their hand is weak, they should accede to more demands even if it hurts their ego for the greater good of their people in the long term. Doing business with sanctions waivers for India/China can only help them so much whereas full business ties with the US with all sanctions lifted is a whole other level.

It seems your brain cannot comprehend that allowing foreign spies to enter ones military sites is something no self respecting nation will allow. These IAEA scum are just spies. It does not matter if it means lifting of all sanctions.
The scumbags are just used as tools to access to sensitive sites.

Chahbahar port will continue with or without India. The Indians will continue with the help of the ports development with or without sanctions. You Pakistanis are obsessed with Chahbahar

Turkey is a neighbor with Iran. Believe me, logic doesn't work when speaking to them. The Mullah expects everybody to tolerate their threats, their meddling and terrorism support in the region... and then expect to be treated normal. Iran needs special treatment because it is a special country.

I understand the sentiment well, but when you're on the back-foot.. you should see the bigger picture and compromise..

want N-bomb ? make one on the sly, or something.. the DPRK got one, Pakistan got there, India got it..

don't let the mullahs spoil this and lead you to war, that's exactly what the house of saud, Israel, and some in the US want.. these next 2 years of the Obama presidency is your window to work out a deal.

yup, fuk the US.. India/China/Russia will maintain relations and continue to support Iran and do business as usual but it'll be so much better for Iran if there is a deal reached. no ? :what:

..its a complicated region, not like the Saudi clerics and their foreign policy is any less destructive.

No offense, but that was pretty stupid. It's not about ego, rather sanity. Which sovereign country on planet earth allows inspections on its military sites or its scientists? Please before posting about something, at least study on most basic parts.

I assure you, nuclear deal is possible without all those stupid demands. They know themselves that Iran nor any other country would allow that, they are just trying to throw last minute demands to make their bid higher, that's a negotiation strategy.

There will not be any military sites inspected or scientists interviewed. They may visit all nuclear sites as they wish, but not missile R&D etc. Nobody is even demanding it, beside a few jealous GCC nations. So why are you even reacting to this bs? Go visit king Salman's dress, see what he hides under there.

can't imagine a higher stakes negotiation than this, I'm sure it's a real pressure cooker for all involved.. I hope to see a sealed and done deal within the Obama presidency, which imo, will be really good for everyone. :)

Oh the deal is already finished. The only sticking points are : how fast will sanctions go away, and how will the snap back. That's it. The rest is bridge under the water. This latest remark from Khamenei, while true, is just for internal consumption.

This was announced by an IRGC commander more than a month ago , the supreme leader only reiterated it on a parade of some sort , because his say is reflected in western media frequently , specially since that nutcase ahmedinajad is gone :D
