Iran has talent and lots of it... no doubt. If only they were a bit more receptive to the outer world and not considering anyone not against US as an "American puppet", they'd have all the help they need to make a truly indigenous fighter in terms of design as well.

Alas! Because of a top few, the rest are made to look bad.

Well the Azarakash , is a wonderful plane

a) Upgraded avionics
b) New Radar (Iran is 100% self reliant on Radars) , the radar was fitted into the new planes
c) Iran has virtually no restriction on how many planes it can manufacture 100 is a great start but they can be hitting 200 in 2-3 years time


They also posses a lethal Missile Pheoinx-54 , which perhaps even today is effective as it was back in 70's because its a Long Range Missile a true BVR like missile , who know if Iran is reverse engineering this missile

I was reading that the Iranian modification , have almost increased the performance of origional designs by 150%

Super Azarakash probbly would be scaled up model with bigger pay load who know a 2 seater even ... and if they did it before they can surely make a bigger plane

The range on radars on Tom Cat F14 is enough that people say it could be used as a AWAC to keep other planes updated on upcoming threat in air etc

When you add to that S200 and S200+ which really what Iran has now then its a very formidable defense against traditional 4th generational airforce

^^^The Azaraksh are still 1970s technology nonetheless.

But I'd have to say, it is quite impressive that they can make the AIM-54 Phoenix missile. That is one A2A missile that packs a punch and at great ranges.

And they can still take care of those beautiful F-14s after all these years of sanctions. Hope they can actually make one of those with the latest avionics and radar and make it a truly 4.5G fighter.

They also seem to be pretty good at making helicopters.

Due respect for Iran but it is imperative to get into a loop of some kind too. It can be Russia, China, Turkey... Possibilities are endless.

a) Huge Man Power
b) F14 Tom Cats with long range radars , with Missiles that are Long Range
c) 100 new fighters with new avionics and airframes
d) Local Production of S-200 + which has a kill ratio of 85%
e) Countless Missiles for offensive duties (Irani fighters don't even need to leave their own airspace)
f) UAV (Conventional and Stealth that even spied on American carriers)
g) Unlimited Attack Helicopters (Cobras) so ground invasion of any kind will result in heavy casualties for enemies
h) Unconventional flying boats (which can fire anti ship missiles) radars do not pick these low flying ships
i) Local frigate / destroyer production

From tactical point of view Iran has already the resources it needs to counter or defend its airspace

The Super Azarakash would probbly have more pay load capacity may be 8-10 missiles

they Are Sanctions from America and Europe, while Russia, China , North Korea and even India is helping them Secretly and some time Openly.

Well Iranian Engineers are known for engineering they are what Germany is to Europe in Engineering

What are the things restricting Iran from reverse engineering the F14 Tom Cats ?

Clearly a plane of that time frame did not had alot of digital things that could not be reverse engineered

Its stated they have 100% become self sufficient in F14 Tom Cats parts

You are hyping things here.

Iran has good military capabilities but it is not on par with the best in the world. For example: against US; Iran is just like another Iraq.

Though I do not blame Iranians for this because they face isolation and sanctions. However, Iranian policies have put them in this position. One can argue that WEST is not treating Iran fairly but Ahmedinejad needs a wake-up call too. His comments are not helping either.
