What's new

Iran offers Pak huge discount in gas price during peak hours in summer

No avtually its finally started to become reality. The pipeline from Gwadar to Nawabshah will be funded by China and will be completed in 1-2 years

The remaining portion of 80km will be completed by Pakistan as soon as the sanctions are lifted which is likely to happen soon. So I reckon we will start importing the gas from Iran within 2-3 years

What about trump?

What about trump?
Whatever statements he gave earlier won't make too much sense after he takes over as President. Iran is likely to have resolved all major concerns with International community paving way for normalisation of relationship with rest of the world including Pakistan

You never know with Trumpo.

Pakistan should not be held hostage by either the Iranians or the Saudis.

We should do business with both!

This means get that damn iranian pipeline built and allow the Saudis to outbid them in a fair and open market. As consumers it's a win win situation.

We should not be bogged down in this stupid shia-sunni sectarian crap!

Pipe dream rears its head again just to make it look like as if Pakistan-Iran relationship has any relevance.

Pakistan-Iran bilateral trade has now shrunk to below $200 million from $1.2 billion a few years back.

You're just a sad puppy who always has some kind of crap to write about Pakistan :disagree:

If trump reimposes sanctions which is definite yes then it wont matter how much discount they will offer us.

It's our neighbor, a brother. It's kind of ridiculous to not give them the business and be indecisive.
The gulf states haven't stopped doing business with India.Pakistan needs to work out her options.Don't screw this up.

During the President Hassan Rouhani's visit this year, they set an ambitious target to increase the bilateral trade from the 250 million $ mark to 5bn$ in five years.Highly unlikely to achieve that if this attitude is continued.

Quoting state bank of Pakistan:
"Key reasons for low trade volumes include high non-tariff barriers in Iran, high customs duty on items in which Pakistan has comparative advantage (e.g. textile), slow process of import approvals in Iran, lack of enabling infrastructure that can facilitate trade on Pakistan’s side, poor rail, road and air connectivity between the two countries, and less number of land border trade posts."

There is potential but, it's just not being utilized well by both the neighbors.

About sanctions, the international community has enough of it.US is only going to lose it leverage in Asia if she deal with it like a child. The burden to justify the need to reimpose the sanctions will be on them.Especially in this new emerging multipolar world with the Chinese trying to spread their economic & trade network this hurdle doesn't stand a chance. Now with CPEC in place the cooperation between China,Pakistan and Iran is only going to improve. That gas pipeline can be extended to China as well.Only if the three of these countries could revive the old ECO and include Turkey and the rest of the friendly member states to create a solid block, that will benefit us all.

PS: It would have benefited the domestic consumers more if the season was the winter season. But, obviously it's their offer & they must have done their calculations to make it look lucrative for us, yet feasible for them.
