PressTV - 'Iran deploys forces along NW border'

Iran has deployed 5,000 military forces in the northwest of the country along its common border with the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

According to an informed source, these forces are fully equipped and have been stationed along the Sardasht border with Iraqi Kurdistan.

The purpose of the deployment is holding military maneuvers with the aim of stabilizing the border area and fighting counterrevolutionary groups.

Recently, a senior Iranian military commander said with the support of the US, President of Iraqi Kurdistan Massoud Barzani had dedicated 300,000 hectares (three million square kilometers) of the region's lands to the terrorist Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan (PJAK).

The group is using these lands to carry out anti-Iran military activities, the Iranian commander said.

PJAK is an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is known as a terrorist group by much of the international community, including the US.

PKK has been fighting the Turkish government since 1984 for an independent state in southeastern Turkey.

Both terrorist organizations are stationed in the mountainous border areas in Iraqi Kurdistan. They use the contributions made to them by Iraqi Kurds to penetrate Iranian soil and carry out bombings and terrorist activities.

Isreal and the U.S have been providing funds, covert training as well as supplying arms to PKK and Pjak to cause mischief within the region especially to unsettle the Kurd's on the Iranian side of the border.

nice to hear by iran that they also sacrifice for WOT, but i havent heard about that pkk/pjak is getting 300,000 hectars. there is no such statement in turkish news!

and by the way, how active is pjak in iran?

Kurds think we will give them land so they can become independant, which is a lie really since as soon as a kurdistan is created an uncle sam base will be created there too and they will be funded by usa..that not 'independant'.

Does Iran have a history of Kurdish separatism? Kurds are ethnically and linguistically close to Persians, maybe thats why i have never heard of Kurdish rebels in Iran unlike Iraq and Turkey.

You are correct. Kurds belong to the Iranian people just like the Persians and their homeland is in Iran, they have a big province in Iran called ''Kordestan''. That is their main homeland within Iranian borders. Most of these dead PJAK bodies who get identified happen to be Iraqi Kurds or Turkish Kurds. Iranian Kurds don't want to seperate from Iran, It is a different story then the Turkish and Iraqi Kurds
