The estimated value of the products/systems/technologies developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is approximately Rs.1,12,000 Crore.

The Government proposes to make the following major infrastructure investment for the programmes of DRDO over the next five years :-

Programmes/Projects
Approximate Cost (Rupees in Crore)

Aeronautical Test Range
1300
USE: Testing next generation fighters, UAV/UCAVs

Foundry for Field Programmable Array (FPA)
500
USE: reprogramable avionics like software defined radios etc.

Foundry for Gallium Nitride
500
Upgradation of Gallium Arsenide Foundry
500

USE: AESA,next gen radar systems . Gallium arsenide: next generation of affordable AESAs are enabled by this emerging MMIC technology capable of supporting higher RF power per unit area. GaN technology provides increased reliability and efficiency, resulting in lower prime power consumption and relaxed cooling requirements. Thus, GaN T/R modules provide significantly higher long-pulse radio frequency (RF) power than that of standard gallium arsenide (GaAs) T/R modules.

Upgradation of MEMS facility
500
USE: sensors, actuators etc in missile, fighters etc

Aerostat Test Range
500
USE Better and bigger aerostat for BMD

EW Test Range
500
USE: EW systems developments

Upgradation of Rail Track Rocket Sled
500
USE: provides a controlled environment for high-velocity impact, aerodynamic, acceleration, and related testing of small and large test items.

Facility for testing of Gas Turbine Engine
500
USE: MAture kaveri engine

These programmes/projects are likely to be completed/materialized in three to ten years period depending on various Government clearances and other procedures.

Amounts are very small(only 5% of MRCA value) and time-frames are pretty complacent, considering what China and Russia are spending in their domestic programs. Nevertheless, better late than never.

Facility for testing of Gas Turbine Engine
500
USE: MAture kaveri engine

^^ Lack of this facility, added 6 years of delay in Kaveri project.

ic foundries with 90nm technology then further upgrade it to 45 and then 32nm technology (till the end of 2012)

add large funds to asl, rci, dmrl(for single crystal alloys), nanotech labs and lrde

Research in India doesnot cost much because of cheaper manpower and other equipments as compared to other countries just like our LCA project has very less research spending as compared to other countries but it has overspending when compared to Indian standard. ADA compared their research spending on LCA with western countries while they didn't compared the fact that labor and machinery and all other things are cheaper in India as compared to rest of the world.
