other than the F-16s, PAF did not have a capable enough fighter for patrolling, as the minimum requirement
in the scenario under discussion was an on-board airborne intercept radar, exceptional agility and sufficient staying power. The F-7s had reasonably good manoeuvrability but lacked an intercept radar as well as endurance, while the Mirage-III/5 were sitting ducks for the air combat mission (even though an odd squadron had been retrofitted with a first-class radar which made it fit for the night interceptor role).

30 JFT in service bt they are for A2G role only

except short range AAM they still cant fire BVR

A2A variant of JFT with BVR integrated will enter into service by mid 2012 or early 2013.

Seems inaccurate information. What is the source?

The Chinese radar should be able to handle SD-10.

It's not really so difficult to carry out A2A operation in J 17,all you need is good Radar.

On topic -Except F 16 ,there are none other which is dependebale in PAF.
JF 17 is short leg aircraft ,good for interceptor and air patrol.

Everyone must think that this is the U.S.A. we are talking about. U.S. is light years ahead in technology than Pakistan is. This is not a failure of Pakistan PAF. Pakistan does not have the technology that U.S. has. Anyways if Pakistan were able to intercept Seal Team Six, then what? Shoot them down? Can anyone of you imagine the repercussions?

U.S.A. did Pakistan a good thing. The nerve of this assh$$e bin Laden to hide out in an upscale city IN PAKISTAN AND coordinate attacks against Pakistanis and its establishment. This angers me to the core.

bt integrating radar takes years

nabil has confirmed the radar will be smaller version of J-10B AESA.

along with these more goodies will also join the JFT.
