By the way i meant modern aircraft carriers. Though i know Japan is the most advanced/capable country in Asia (especially their navy), In fact Japan built dozens of aircraft carriers during the second world war(only the U.S built more than them) while many countries in Asia were not even independent/were still an agrarian society. Even today Japan certainly has the capabilities to build full scaled/fixed wing aircraft carriers, just that they are constrained/limited by their pacifists constitution, reason they go for large LHD alias light aircraft carriers, at least it doesnt draw too much attention like full scale aircraft carriers. I respect the Japanese for this, they are very capable/skilled yet calm/humble people. Idaina Nihon. @Nihonjin1051

Which countries even had this capability in the first place?

US- still building them
Russia- still (sort of) building them but constrained by finances
UK- same as Russia
Japan- has not made any carriers since WW2 but this is because of idealogical reasons (their new defensive constitution) and not because they can't or don't see the benefit in them. Now they are making LHD/Mini-carriers so they are getting back in the game somewhat.
Spain-still making them
France- Same as with Russia and UK

Now India and China have also joined the game.

Well IN wants to explore its Blue Water capabilities. 5 carriers allow it to do so. CBG has 3-7 ships or more excluding the carrier. Hence, whenever a ACC is build, an equal emphasis is also given to the ships in the CBG. Without them ACC is a sitting duck. How long can CIWS and aircrafts defend it.

5 has always been the ambition of the IN for a long, long time. This is for the futrue however, the IN will not get 5 carriers before 2030-2, at the earliest but by then India's defence budget will be in excess of $250 billion a year so costs don't come into it.

there is no cost higher than your security ...period
we already have Virat & Vikrmaditya while Vikrant is in works & IAC 2 in final stages of design (there will be 2 IAC-2 type at least) right now PMO & MOD is more concerned about ramping Up capabilities of IN & IAF

WOW....i'm impressed. Good to see India building such a complex ship indigenously. That's not an easy task. No country in Asia has built an aircraft carrier from scratch so far. Waiting to see what it will look like 3 years from now when complete. Good going India. keep it up. .

By the way our 2 mighty Queen elizabeth aircraft carriers will soon be ready as well. The firs wil be ready 2 years from now
