Seriously, no modern navy is going to commission a destroyer lacking aerial cover for their CV in nowadays. I can bet IN is the first. Barak 1 is basically a point blank defense and not air defense cover for CV.

She won't be put into combat without so what's the fuss? And anyway, the T-45 Darlings WERE inducted and even sent on an operational deployment to the Falklands islands without the Phalanx CIWS installed. Would you not consider the RN a modern navy?

When is Phalanx CWIS is consider a major weapon system for Daring? She could have used her Aster 15/30 missile as point blank defense,right?

But there is no substitute for long range air defense of INS Kolkata,right? What shall INS Kolkata used to defense against long range air threat? Nothing....

Will she be going to war in the next 12-18 months? I think not. It makes sense to induct her now, get her crew up to speed on the ship and install the system sometime next year rather than just having her sit there. There is no alternative- it is not the IN's fault the LR-SAM has encountered delays.

I don't know what ships that might be but only 4 out of 6 T-45s will come with the ability to fire Harpoons- silly in itself.

76 mm main gun. Type 052D has 130 mm. 4 AK-630 are not as good as Type 052D's Type 730 and FL-3000N combo. Front seems a bit too cluttered. Lacks long range air defense missiles. Type 052D has HQ-9 with at least 200 km range. Overall, I'd say the same class as Type 052D, but not as capable.

Fantasy. Only 2 more Kolkatas are planned. 6 Type 052Ds are under construction. 2 Type 052Ds are already completed with 1 inducted.

Barak 2 is not even a long range SAM with only 75 km range. It is a naval version of Iron Dom. HQ-9 is a true long range SAM with at least 200 km range.
