Indonesian Ministry of Defense is officially showcasing the IF-X in Indonesian livery during IndoDefence 2014 exhibition, which is held in Jakarta from 5-8 November. The Korea Aerospace Industries KF-X/IF-X is a South Korean program to develop an advanced multirole fighter for the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) and Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU), spearheaded by South Korea with Indonesia as the primary partner. It is South Korea’s second fighter development program following the FA-50.

The project was first announced by South Korean President Kim Dae-Jung at the graduation ceremony of the Korea Air Force Academy in March 2001. South Korea and Indonesia agreed to cooperate in the production of KF-X/IF-X warplanes in Seoul on July 15, 2010

India's loss. We could have jumped on this since it was offered.
Not really, india is better off going ti alone (AMCA) or at least tieing up with an established leader in the field (France). Indonesia is even less able than India in this field so I don't see what they bring to the table as far as India is concerned.

I hope Indian posters see this because of Congress we did not jump on this. I hope we can get back on this program. Seems to show more tangible results than Tejas.

France is not doing anything. LOOK at the plane. Its 1000 better than Tejas. We were supposed to the partner not Indonesia.

Do you know what the term tangible means?

Is more tangible than this:

I hope we can get back on this program
Why? What can Indonesia offer to India? Very little, and Korea is not all that advanced in their aviation efforts either. This would be another case of India pumping in billions into someone else's aviation industry, in this case it is far better to go for the AMCA and maybe bring on some European partners.

So looks are all that count? In that case LOOK at India's own AMCA:

Just like the KF-X it is a paper plane right now. If one had to bank on which country got their in service first it would be India for sure. Indonesia and Korea are very new entrants to this market and jumping straight into a VLO/next ten fighter is going to be a MASSIVE learning curve for them. India has extensive experience to build upon.

should be interesting to see how it stacks up to the F-35 by 2025
how much R&D and the price per unit will be.
Korea and Indonesia are going to procure about 200 of them altogether??

India could merge the AMCA with it.

South Korea can bring this out pretty quick. Their production skills are pretty good. I have little faith in India. You brought up good points, but Im skeptical. We'll wait and see.

Indian putting their AMCA project in collaboration with them would help build a futuristic NATO - like alliance in Asia

I agree with you that the S.Koreans have expertise in production and are known for this but I am dubious whether they and the Indonesians really have the know how to develop a VLO/5th gen fighter.

I dont see the Indonesian contribution besides $$$. However, if we got cash to spare I think its a wise investment. South Korea's contribution remains to be seen but I think their cozy relationship with the US has provided them with good clues.

If China continues to push, this would help ensure a NATO like allaince which I believe is the best way to tackle China if they keep on bullying everyone in the region.
