If the text books are so cheap then why don't they just dish them out?
If education for the masses is the aim, then I think that would be better than a poor excuse of a tablet.
If they are going to use technology, then do it properly.
Yes, the 2nd version looks to be a marked improvement.

Having an access to internet would reduce the cost of buying books. With internet people can just go online and search up things that they want to learn or find out.
Apperently, just now, Apple is going to make books electronically. If University books cost hundreds of dollars, apple will make it cost 10-15 on screen....
I have kindle, I buy books online, much better than carrying books with, and its saves me the time of going to the book store. Plus saves up a lot of room in my apartment. And if I can't find a book online I just go to the university's library and checkout a book so I would say in the long run having a tablet doesn't matter how run down they are is better.
More or less the same thing as me. I use my mac to download books online and that is convenient to save hands...
The only affordable Tablet right now in the market is the Blackberry Playbook. It is more or less between the level of kindle and iPad tech wise. Just costs $199-399 depending on how much GB...

Kindle is not same as reading on your mac.
It can last upto a month without charging, and does not strain your eyes, almost similar to reading paper.
The downside is your room has to be well lit.
I am not talking about kindle fire.
i own a playbook and an ipad 2, i prefer the playbook over the ipad 2, its more portable and has bridge to it, playbook + blackberry phone is a powerful combination.
If Indian government is serious about improving education, they should subsidize and give away Kindle-like book readers. Having a good reading habit is more important than playing video games, surfing PDF, or playing in Facebook.
RIM is developing a software for Blackberry called QNX. It is the same software you will find on a fighter jet!!
India finds it hard to compete with Reliance Petro and Tata.India will fiind a bit hard to compete with Microsoft in the future. Watch this:
