There are lots of threads on social problems of India such as rape, honour killing, repression of backward castes, poverty, health and sanitation etc.

The other side of the debate where the developments on these various fronts as well as the trend and direction in which these are heading are not represented.

A separate thread to collate all the data and understanding the direction is needed. I am starting this thread for this purpose. Request to all members to cooperate.

@levina I couldn't find the thread and if it is in seniors cafe then others can't post, so there is a need for this thread.
Maybe the seniors cafe thread can be used to highlight the major points.

That's great, but still one-sided. I know it would be difficult to have a thread with both sides on it, but I feel it is worth a shot, there are good debaters on both sides and people are active in posting news.
Let's see how this progresses.
If you manage to cross 100 pages they will automatically make the thread sticky.

If you see the number of threads on these topics, all that needs be done is to get those posts here.
Should be easy right?
:p::-)

Brave Haryana sisters beat up three men for harassing them in moving bus | The Indian Express

The video(above) of two sisters thrashing three men who were allegedly harassing them in a bus went viral, leading the police to take prompt action against the accused.

Late Sunday night, the three men — identified as Kuldeep, Mohit and Deepak — were arrested.

The girls were returning from their Rohtak college to Sonepat in the Haryana Roadways bus on Friday when the men allegedly started harassing them. The girls objected at first, but the men reportedly kept passing lewd remarks. Then the sisters retaliated by beating them with their hands and belt, and attempted to push them out of the bus. They also tried calling the women’s helpline 1091, but in vain.

One of the passengers captured the incident on a mobile phone. The video later went viral on TV and social networking websites.

Inspector Gajender Singh, Station House Officer at the Rohtak Sadar police station, said, “A complaint was received on Friday evening and a case was registered against the three men. They are residents of Assan village.”According to the sisters, the men had harassed them earlier too.

Delhi church blaze sparks protest outside police HQ - Rediff.com India News
Scores of members of the Christian community and social activists staged a protest outside the Delhi police headquarters in New Delhi on Tuesday morning over alleged police inaction in the case of the fire which on Monday gutted a church in northeast Delhi's Tahirpur area.

The protesters alleged that the police had been lax in performing their duties and said that a lot of time was lost and possible evidence destroyed before the law and order personnel finally reached the spot.

"We want a judicial inquiry into the fire at the church as police have not taken any action in this regard so far," said Father Stanley Kozhichira, media director of the Delhi archdiocese.

A major traffic jam was caused due to the protest at the ITO junction during the morning rush hours. The protesters tried to enter the police headquarters to meet the police commissioner but were prevented from doing so.

Later, a delegation of the protesters met the city police chief B S Bassi and put forward their demands before him with the latter assuring them of a speedy probe in the case.

Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung constituted an SIT under the leadership of Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav soon after a delegation led by Delhi Archbishop Anil Couto called on him seeking a detailed probe into the fire that gutted St Sebastian's Church in Tahirpur area in northeast Delhi on Monday.

The LG assured Couto of zero tolerance against targetted and communal violence in the national capital. He said he was directing the police commissioner to see that the investigations into the burning of the church were carried out expeditiously and that all preventive measures were taken. The state government, he said, was deeply concerned about such issues.
