Which International Court? To understand the legal issues , read UNCLOS; the International Treaty which covers crimes committed on the High Seas.

Bit selfish? What if the same pirates hijack another Chinese ship? Double the job?

Of course, Some Chinese ships were hijacked in Somalia.

You should understand that pirates will not be reduced because of your arrest.
As long as the Somali maintain the status quo, Piracy will never decrease. Because there is no way of survival Somalis, besides doing pirates.

If the news had carried saying India arrested and released the pirates..iam pretty sure u would have sung another tune...

So before finding faults with us..tell me wat benefit is by releasing them...may be u think that next time the released pirates come to hijack a ship..they will think chinese are good ppl ..they released us so we will not hijack them...

"Catch-and-release" works well in sport fishing, not so well in crime-fighting. FYI, piracy is a crime.

May be "Catch-and-release" is a doctrine of some Navies who are familiar with fishing; it is not a viable strategic doctrine. I wonder how any nation would be able to use "Catch-and-release" as a 'Crime-Fighting' technique and hope to reduce the prevalence of the crime itself !!

Unless it is a part of a carefully calibrated Political Agenda, which can be allowed to over-ride everything.

Even China can prosecute under Chinese laws provided that China is a signatory to and has ratified UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Seas). This treaty allows countries (actually enjoins countries; i.e. expects countries) to prevent crime on the High Seas as well as to prosecute such criminals. That is an obligation under International Law.
BTW, UNCLOS also defines International Waters, EEZ, Teritorial Limits in the sea etc. So it impinges on China as well, just like any other country. If China chooses not to act in a particular way, that is for China to decide; they may have a political agenda which over-rides some legal niceties.

Last time I checked they were lawless clans from the god-forsaken country of Somalia who make a living killing sailors many of them Indians.

So I dont see how the 'democracy' goes a waste.

But I will tell how my tax money will go a waste - we have no established SOP for handling the trials of the captured pirates. So we will keep them in lockup, feed them, take care of them and in fact they will be much happier in Indian jails with three foods per day than in Somalia.

Best solution is sink their mother ship, take the arms and let them be on the ship itself. If thwy somehow manage to escape its their luck else let them have a good journey to Mr.Jones' locker.

Would we like to see the same treatment meted out by the Pakistani, Sri lankan and Bangladeshi navy - or Coast Guard - to our fishermen who will not listen to counsel to stick to Indian fishing waters? Are we not already aware that the Tamil Nadu fishermen in the Gulf of Mannar go deep into Sri Lankan waters, in spite of their clear knowledge that this is not permitted, and their knowledge that both the Jaffna fisher community and the official maritime forces of Sri Lanka are increasingly hostile and edgy about this aggressive behaviour? There is a constant smuggling traffic around the Sundarbans, with smugglers and river pirates from both countries active; should the BDB start shooting?

Please don't be so ready to fight to the last soldier, sailor or airman. We are civilians; it is in poor taste for us to suggest belligerent action of this sort, which is illegal as well, as far as international law goes.
