The S-70B - seen here in Republic of Singapore Navy service - is the sole remaining bidder for the Indian Navy's MRH requirement. (IHS/Patrick Allen)

Officials said the NH90 had been excluded from the bidding process because of its commercial links with Italian defence conglomerate Finmeccanica, which the MoD 'partially banned' from new tenders in July.

This limited proscription followed the 1 January termination of the EUR750 million (USD764 million) contract for 12 AgustaWestland AW101 helicopters for the Indian Air Force (IAF) on alleged corruption charges that remain under investigation in India.

One doubt....Which version IN will order....Also is it right to buy a helicopter which is so old...

1979.....:o:. It is too old.. After 2-3 years IN will again say that they are not having new and advanced tech helicopters and drama like of rafales ( replacing mig 21 and mig 27) will occur again....o_O..... Why not buy a recently developed helicopter...?

Hmmm... S-70 is a export version... it was produces first in 1980s that doesn't mean we're getting the one which was built in 1980s... US did lots of Upgrade in them.. ..

The IN will be getting the S-70B. All this talk of "old" and "outdated" equipment based purely on the first flight of the helo is nonsensical, the S-70B is arguably the most advanced ASW helo in the world today.

I'm sure @Rikbo can tell you further just how wrong your assertions are.

On that note; should'nt we be talking about how ancient and antiquated the C-130s (or even the B-52s) are?! :D

I mean whenever changes are made in avionics, company changes its name to prove its technical considerations...For e.g Apache 64D block 3 is termed as Apache 64E...Similarly C130 is also divided on technological segments like C130A/B/E/F/G/H/K/T/J/K etc, Similarly HAL dhruv has varients mk1,mk2,mk3... But S70b seahawk which model the IN is choosing is old and there are no varients after that ( considering only s70b seahawk )

This image shows that there are no varients of S70 for export rather than S70b Seahawk which is again 1979...o_O
