Indian Govt to hike defence budget

As said above if the airforce and army starts working like our navy i wont mind paying more taxes but the iaf and ia should learn something from our navy

Relax and chill, with Antaony there who is known for being honest. I am not that worried.

Dude, he seems to be a little-too-honest blacklisting firms at the drop of a hat and then starting the tender process all over again.

It is a known secret defence firms do indulge in back-door deals world over and if the product is good why not let that happen ?? For example there were three firms for the Howitzers - Denel, Singapore Kinetics and Bofors. First Denel was blacklisted, then SK and now Bofors,BAe may be listed for the leaking.

Now who will supply the howitzers if all three suppliers are blacklisted. In addition to honesty which is good there needs to be a little bit pragmatism also.

An overdose of anything, including honesty, is not good.

India plans to spend Rs 46,000-crore for 126 MMRCA, the world’s most advanced fighter aircraft, for Indian Air Force and more than Rs 60,000 crore for 197 advanced helicopters for IAF and the Indian Army.
I don't think we will be spending 60,000 crore on 197 advanced light helicopters. I think they added an extra zero.

So Planing a 25% hike in last years defence budget.

Last year Indian defence budget was $36 Billion...So they plan to increase it to $45 Billion this year.

43k crore to 56k crore...c'mon that is still less than 3% of our total GDP. That might sound like an hike in cash but in total GDP it has no change in it. 5% of the GDP for defence? Yeah and the opposition will keep quiet? First let them try to increase .5% that itself would be a feat.

43k crore to 56k crore...c'mon that is still less than 3% of our total GDP.
I think its only meant for acquisition.....Many deals will be signed this year. Good for our armed forces. I hope they pay attention to basic requirement like good guns, good quality BP jackets and helmets, night vision glasses and good communication equipments for our armed forces.

I think there are some mistakes about the numbers in the report. :undecided:

If we invest the money on indigenous systems and R&D, it will be much better.

Well, its a needed thing for our Armed Forces modernizing plan..after all our GDP is also expanding :)
Good to see that the thread is clean so far..who knows next!
