The output of manufacturing, mining and utilities firms rose 3.4% from a year earlier in June, modestly weaker than the 5.0% expansion in May, according to government data released Tuesday. It fell short of economists' expectation of a 5.25% increase.

Separate government data also issued Tuesday showed high food prices drove consumer inflation to 7.96% in July from 7.46% in June. This too was worse than economists' prediction of 7.40%.

India's exports grew more than 10% for the second month in a row in June while new-car sales gained the most in 10 months. Output for the country's eight key infrastructure industries also showed a marked improvement.

The new govt has brought a lot of optimism & with many reforms being introduced almost daily[from Law & order to economy] we can expect a turn around in 3-4 quarters.
