From nuclear submarines to UCAV, from 5th generation fighter to F-INSAS everything is going on smoothly may be with some delays but don't know what the hell is wrong with Indian army getting artillery guns.

Indian army to get 2 new gun systems

New Delhi, Mar 14 (PTI) Defence Minister A K Antony today told Parliament that two new gun systems are expected to be inducted into the Indian Army.

Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, he said "two new gun systems are expected to be inducted during the 11th Plan." :hitwall:

On the steps being taken by the government to supply state-of-art guns to the army, Antony said "modernization is an ongoing process. While a number of weapons and equipment have already been inducted, procurement process for other weapons, including guns, is under way."

Replying to another query on installation of coastal scan system for the Coast Guard to monitor the sea lanes of the country, the Minister said "a project for installation of a chain of static sensors for coastal surveillance is under implementation." "In the first phase, surveillance is being enhanced at 46 locations around high traffic density and security sensitive areas. Another 40 stations will be established in Phase II."

The first phase of the project is expected to be implemented by 2012.
Meanwhile, replying to a question on Pakistan''s nuclear capability and reports that it has added 40 to 100 additional weapons in last five years, he said "the government has seen reports relating to nuclear weapons programme of Pakistan. India''s nuclear doctrine and security preparedness is geared to meet all its current and future security needs and challenges".

"The government remains committed to taking all necessary measures to meet any security threat," he added. PTI A

one more import shame. after 60 years, they don't have enough money for local R&D and production of guns because by some "strange" mathematics, it is always costly to fund R&D but always cheaper to pay 3 times to foreign companies.

india will be keep importing artillery guns even in year 2030. shame!

IA can't even fund that group in IIT which designed core system behind railgun! but they always have big money$$ for imported stuff.

And with leaders like MMS, india has no hope.

shaktiman, Yeah thats another strange thing happening in India. We have been having R&D and making almost every military equipment except artillery. :frown: I think just recently DRDO came up with a project to develop 155 mm artillery in India. I guess when these guns will be ready there will be rain of artillery guns to the army from foreign companies and their Indian lobbies.

There is something peculiar going on regarding artillery guns for the army.

Apart from this OFB and DRDO are offering the upgrade our present bofors to 155mm.

As far as i know there is no artillery meeting the requirement of IA. Even M777 failed the tests. I think it would have been better that IA should have given the requirement for them to Indian companies (including private) and they would have made tailored howitzer for our armed forces. The project should have been just like that FICV one.

You want stuff to be produced in India? Allow Lockheed, Boeing, Dassault, EADS to have their own privately owned subcidiaries in India. In a matter of 20 years you can have turn around... what makes those DRDO & HAL guys special ? Nothing.. Open the damn defense industry and regulate it strictly.

This will never happen in India as India do not even allow joint ventures with foreign companies as the majority stake holder. Unless these companies would allow to control their own intellectural property, they would feel safe building top notch products in India.

i have also heard that the drdo had to shelve a light tank(75 mm) which was built and completed trials just bcoz indian army wasn't interested
