NEW DELHI: Indian Army Chief Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag is in Vietnam on a four day visit (Dec 17-20) to intensify its defence and strategic cooperation amid rising tensions in the South China Sea (SCS) region after Beijing ignored last Monday's deadline given by an international court to make its official territorial claims in the hotly disputed region.

This is first time that an Indian Army chief is visiting Vietnam since a robust defence partnership was launched few years back. Offici ..

this is the news: aluminium hull fast patrol boat, 7-8 from GRSE company. 35 meters in length, 10 meters broad. No pic available yet.

I guess so about 200 tons, similar to this one of the coast guard: TT-200 class.

I don't get it, why VN needs to buy an small boat like that from India when VN already makes bigger and better (TT-400TP)? This is difficult to understand, we were getting all excited, and for a dinky boat like that?

By the way, I'm concerned about how hard the americans are hitting Russia, all that currency speculation is orchestrated by Washington, they are hitting them from all angles, They want to collapse the economy and make people feel the pain so that they can outs Putin, in which case the friends of the west will take over and US will end up controlling Russia. That would not be good for Vietnam.
I think Russia and Putin are very strong and can survive, but I do worry.
I'm no friend of China, but right now, they are the only ones that can help Russia if they are smart enough to help without asking for some kind of advantage in return, but that remains to be seen.

really? if 8 then $12.5 million a piece. no info about onboard equippments.

The TT-400TP (Navy version which is more expensive than the coast guard version) is $10 million. That ship is 54 m long, about 450 tons.

They are only 140-tonne patrol boats. Expensive for that size.

If that's the price, that's definitely expensive. I don't understand what's the point of getting such an small boat, what would be so special about that boat that VN can't make it.

I think it might cost more. Those extra 7 are only optional.

I think its water jet engine... over 35knots speed. Still expensive.

They are supposedly designed according to VN's order.

So maybe VN will get the design for licensed domestic production in the future? I don't know, it is still expensive.

It will most likely have water jet engines. That's the only "special" thing I could think of.

hm...not sure about vietnam navy calculus. I guess many things are unknown to outsiders like you and me.

Russia has resources to withstand the attack right now. BUT should the West increase the economics sanction and the oil price further sinks to unsustainable level, so less than $50 a barrel, over a long period of time. All would make a perfect storm. Russia could default in 1-2 years as it won´t be able to pay back debts.

I doubt China would help Russia without conditions. the Chinese are too smart if they won´t seize the opportunities. Even the currency swap deal with China will cost Russia a lot of money if the russians are forced to draw it.

Did you find any specific info about the ship or what model is it? How do you know is 140 tons and with water jets?

Yes, a sustained perfect storm is what I worry about, they really want to bring Russia down. The chinese will do what they will do, but as I told them, "if you are smart" you should help without conditions; most of them don't get it and only think about profit (how unusual of them), but maybe their leaders get the picture and will act smart, we'll see.

well, this new speed boat of the vietnamese coast guard costs $12.5 million, too: 35 knots, length 13,66m. Seems speed equals expensive, with some modern naval equippments onboard. I think it is all politics here. the navy does not need the vessels from india really, but our people want to draw india into the south china sea mess.

Not really. If you go to DF I there is a really old thread about India giving VN $100 mil credit (from 2013) where some member posted lots of info about these smaller patrol boats.

I read a recent article where it said these will be a new design anyway so it won't be exactly like any of those existing ones. But I don't know. I also forgot where I read that article.

I'm not going to think about these ships anymore, they are just coast guard boats and only for coastal waters anyway. I was expecting either actual warships or OPV boats, so this is actually disappointing, but oh well, we'll find out more later.

there are signs, the duo America and Germany want to further increase the sanction. Angela Merkel is a hard fighter. she is tough. she says in secret she wants russia sinking to its knee. It is interesting to observe when the China leadership will react. I guess the chinese will wait until Russia nears the collapse then they jump in. the later they jump in, the more they can draw benefits from the russian suffering.

Politics is a dirty business.

Woah man that is expensive for a 14m boat. :o:

So I guess that 35m boat that can go 35knots is not so bad after all.

I also think those are expensive and anyway, why has to be so expensive for 35 knots? The Molniyas do 42 knots and cost 65 million (almost half from the missiles) but those are actual warships. 35 meters is even smaller than the Osa missile boats that VN has.

If the chinese really do that, they are really stupid and will lose whatever little respect I have for them.

I'm surprised (and Putin was too) about how much Merkel sold out to the US, what's your take? Did you read what that other German guy said about her?

So I guess she really hates Russia after all, so much for the special relationship that Putin thought that he had with her.

Yes, politics is one hell of a dirty business.
