Indian armed forces to participate in Military World Games - Hindustan Times


A contingent of 149 services personnel will represent the Indian armed forces at the Military World Games at Rio-de-Janeiro in Brazil starting on Saturday. The contingent for the nine-day event includes a sizable number of Commonwealth, Asian Games and National Games medalists, the Army
said in a release.

Indian armed forces will participate in 12 disciplines -boxing, fencing, judo, pentathlon, sailing, shooting, swimming, taekwondo, track and field, triathlon, volleyball and parachuting, it said.

The team includes ace shooter Sanjeev Rajput and star boxers Suranjoy Singh, T Nanao Singh and Chhote Lal Yadav.

The last edition of the Games was conducted by Indian armed forces in which 6,000 athletes from 101 countries had participated at Hyderabad in 2007.

These Games are conducted one year prior to the Olympics, which sets the stage for Military athletes to commence their preparation for the mega sporting event.

The Indian contingent is headed by Air Marshal JN Burma, President Services Sports Control Board.
