The Indian Air Force will induct its sixth C-17 Globemaster heavylift transport aircraft on Monday at the Palam air base, PTI reported.

India had signed a deal for procuring 10 C-17 aircraft from the US under a deal worth around Rs 24,000 crore for augmenting its capability to supply loads and troops to the border areas.

The sixth aircraft would be inducted in presence of Defense Minister Arun Jaitley, IAF officials said.

Jaitley would be given a tour inside the aircraft and would be also briefed about the capabilities of the plane.

The IAF has based the aircraft at the Hindan air base near here in Ghaziabad and has flown it extensively across the country in the last seven-eight months of its induction into operational service.

Vintage plane used by IAF headed for Delhi

When this C-17 Globemaster-III touches down in New Delhi on July 28, there will be a surprise package in the gigantic aircraft's belly. The state-of-the-art strategic airlift aircraft will regurgitate a vintage plane onto the tarmac at Palam. It will be carrying a restored T-6G Harvard plane that was used by IAF to train its rookie pilots in the 1950s and 1960s.

Awesome increase in our strategic lift capabilities... More 10 i.e overall 20 will be good and equally distributed between Pakistan and china border.

No other country has logistical capabilities which come close to the USA.

BTW, our airlift capability is one of the strongest in Asia.
In Asia it is pretty tight between India and China in terms of airlift capability (the high end especially) and both nations are set to augment them further.

I would say Russia and China are ahead of and they have far more importance for such aircrafts of course, while our strategic need is very limited.
