India to study Pakistan's one-dish wedding law to cut food wastage

Yes in Punjab only and it is totally implemented. Another thing in that law is that all wedding functions must end at 10 PM sharp :) which is even better
Hmmm.... Interesting. So has anyone been arrested for this "violation"... I am sure a lot of people must be breaking the law, I can understand with a restriction of 5-6 items, but single dish is going too far IMHO.

what is one dish law,how is it applied?
Well if u have more then one dish groom gets a jail sentence. So now it is voluntarily adopted :) never heard of violations. Lately Rana Sanaullah (law Minister punjab) also implemented that law for his daughter's wedding. The law looks weired but it is actually a blessing in disguise for the poor class and lower middle class who do not have to spend alot on their kids wedding

In start there were some violations but i don;t hear much now. One dish means one rice dish one curry and one sweet. Usually they serve a chicken pulaow, mutton curry and naan. For sweet it is usally faludeh

utter bull shi.t .. not gonna work .. unless people realise the wastage. during peak wedding seasons thousands of wedding takes place in one day even in small cities forget metros and large cities. how are they going to monitor all the weddings . can be applied to senior politician and beaurocrates though :coffee:
Applies to all Rana Sanaullah (Law Ministry) just recently did not violated any rules. Same goes for top bureaucrats

This is bull .. Tons of grains are going waste in Indian food corporations go-downs, they should implement the public distribution system properly. In marriages if excess food is there, at the end of it, definitely people will distribute it to poor, its not thrown away. There are charitable organisations which if called would come and collect the food to be distributed by poor. Instead of framing such foolish policies we should concentrate on curbing corruption, government waste expenditure .. which amounts to billions.

Oh.. just curious have you ever visited a "one dish" wedding? If so how large are the portions? Lol

Not be a pain but I'm planning to have my wedding in India so I just wanna know :)

Im sure the Indian wedding planning industry is already working on a way arround the problem ;)

i m sorry to spoil party here. i m not really comfortable with this idea of one dish wedding. tell us honestly wat do all of us want a one dsh wedding or a grand wedding. i know some of us will idealistically say they want one dish wedding but wen they do get married they will ensure its a grand affair.

i do not support wastages in wedding or any function. i think there are ways to cut down expenditure. we can all start by eliminating wasteful expenditure and all show sha baazi. but i wont cut down on food and entertainment. its a special moment and guys and gals have all the right to feast and enhance their "paunches'.

yes we can all make an effort and tell baraatis not to waste food. wat is required is basic civic sense of not wasting food and not some draconian law which will be manipulated at each wedding.

The wastage is noting compared to one scandal .. aka Mr. Raja. If possible stop this, distribute his property .. at least 2% of poverty in india will be eliminated, Then there is Mr. Kalmadi, Mr. Pawar so on if we add all these people corrupt money india will be out of poverty in no time ....

Not going to work.

Indians are omnivores not just herbivores or carnivores. We need both.
