India, BD begins transhipment of cargo
Wednesday, March 30,2011

AKHAURA: Bilateral ties between India and Bangladesh entered a new era on Tuesday, with India availing transhipment facility through Bangladesh territory first time.

Four trailers, three of 120 wheels and one of 128, carrying four over dimensional cargoes (ODCs) weighing about 326 tonnes entered Tripura from Ashuganj port through Akhaura land port.

Hundreds of curious people flocked the border entry point to see the loaded vehicles moving at a very slow speed.

The consignment was meant for the 726MW gas-based Palatana thermal project under execution by state-run ONGC in south Tripura.

The consignments came from Hyderabad to Kolkata and from there to Ashuganj port by river route. From the port, it was carried in trailers to Akhaura border.

"These are equipment for the Palatana power project and the consignment came from Hyderabad… We are really thankful to Bangladesh government for their kind co-operation," said Pradip Pandia, an official of ABC India, one of the freight carriers assigned with the task of transportation of equipment.

All the 96 consignments consisting of turbine and machineries for the Palatana power project will be transhipped from Ashuganj to Tripura via Akhaura border in the next three months.

Foundation stone for the Rs 4,500 crore Palatana project was laid by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on October 29, 2005.

But the major constraint was transportation of huge turbines and power equipment to Tripura through the single-lane national highway 44 that passes through serpentine hilly terrain with thousands of sharp curbs.

India sought Dhaka's approval for allowing their transportation through its water and land territory to reach land locked Tripura surrounded by Bangladesh from three sides.

Later, in January 2010, during Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina's New Delhi visit, she agreed to allow transhipment of heavy machineries, which was followed by an accord in the month of November.

Bangladesh has expressed desire to buy power at a concessional rate from the Palatana project.

Don't be so shallow ..what price did you give us for saving millions of you from slaughter at the hands of Pakistanis?

We know you are an attention whore, you don't have to beg for attention every 24/7 do you? Why should we help them when they have species like this across the border........

We will not hesitate to blow up Bharti ships and trucks that goes across our land if doesn't pay the dues.

From that kaffir land where you maintain your riba based bank account?

I don't think Bangladesh allows razakaars to return! Do they?

-You had airtel installed in bangladesh which is not paying taxes regularly
-There is trade imbalance that favours india
-You took gas from bangladeshi part of bay of bengal
-Forgiving india constantly for killing bangladeshis living along the border

These are some of the price bangladesh already paid to india, so i think india should pay bangladesh for these facilities:triniti:

Bangladesh does not have to pay any price for anything. 1971 is long forgotten here. Relationship should always be based on give and take. If indian farms are not meeting the terms of bd govt, they should be penalized.

1. Airtel not paying taxes: Should be punished as per bd law.
2. trade imbalance: Should talk to GoI, we have huge trade imbalance with china, but we cant do anything against them
3. Took gas from bay of bengal: No idea
4. Forgiving for border killing: Border crossing is illegal, anybody who is crossing is making the life of bangladeshis who are already in India more difficult. This policy should not change. No compromise with sovereignty.

BD govt should sell the agreements they have with foreign govts to their people, so that there is no heartburn there.
Indian govt hardly faces any problem in convincing the Indian populace, when it explains the treaties are good for us.

COME on... BD guys , we will off course pay you the money , we know your country needs it very much.

Off course , India will pay the transit charges, and if you are seriously thinking of blowing up Indian vessel then do not forget that you too will be one more addition to the terrorist list .

Jokes apart but why you guys have soo much venom against Indian Gov. , they send direct FDI and other stuffs , why such distrust???

do not say coz BSF killed people on border , i condemn but people should realize that India has been facing constant terror threats and we have been pro active on border , so those people should take extra caution and come through bribing the JAWANS if they so much want to come this side...not by illegal way , like cutting fences and playing hide and seek with BFS forces.. Though bribing is total wrong thing , but at least saves lives.
