United Nations - India has approached the United Nations over the release of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi whom it accuses of being the 26/11 Mumbai bombing mastermind. Indian media reported that their permanent representative to the UN Asoke Mukherjee wrote a letter to the chairman of UN’s Sanctions’ Committee in which he termed Lakhvi’s release by a Pakistani court in violation of the UN resolution 1267 dealing with designated entities and individuals.

The Indian convoy specified in his letter that the bail amount provided was against the sanctions’ committee rule which calls for freezing the funds and other financial assets or economic resources of designated individuals and entities

It is a good news if true. The ICJ would ask for the evidence and if the Bhartis presented the usual 'Oont marka beeri' and 'tooth pastes' -type evidence, well, its going to be something very interesting afterwards. I welcome this move.

The Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee

LeT and JUD is sanctioned by UNSC 1267 committee and any person associated with these organisations are going to face sanction as well...

India also pointed out that as a listed terrorist, Lakhvi can neither receive or give money since all his assets and financial resources have to be frozen. Any bail money posted for Lakhvi is also a violation of the provisions of the sanctions committee since he is listed terrorist.

Acknowledging India's concerns, McLay has responded to India's letter and assured that the matter will be discussed at the next meeting of the committee, sources told PTI.
The committee had listed in December 2008 Lakhvi as a terrorist associated with LeT and al-Qaida for "participating in the financing, planning, facilitating, preparing or perpetrating of acts of activities by, in conjunction with, under the name of, on behalf or in support of" both entities.

As a listed terrorist, Lakhvi is subject to assets freeze, travel ban and an arms embargo.

by the way,Pakistan is in a fix now.You can't simply provide bail to a Al Qaida Sanctioned list person,as it is equal to funding terrorism.And Pakistan just freed a guy like Lakhvi is just as bad as supporting Al Qaida openly in International Forums..That is way too bad for Pakistan's image.
