India seeks nod from China on UN Council seat

India is growing at a better rate than Brazil, though Brazil is one of the fastest, but India leads Brazil in growth terms, you need to keep future prospects, based on growth and projections in mind.

if growth was the major criteria then japan and germany would have been chosen, and can still be chosen ahead of india.

but yes, brazil would be good choice, but i think the usa would prefer india, which is unfortunately maybe the biggest criteria

Just for the sake of argument, if China decides to use this as an opportunity to break the "cycle of hostility"... what will be the Indian response?

More specifically, how will the politicians (Sonia et al.), the nationalist voters and the Indian media, allow the GoI to respond?

I think any friendly move on China's side will just end up as a regretful loss of face for us, because the GoI cannot respond in a similar manner. Just my opinion.

Do any Indians want to reply to this?

Preferably senior Indian members please. I.e. Not our racist friend Punjabbi Munda.

You"ll see a headline like this:

China backs India's stand on climate change

Bad timing I think.

Especially considering that the Indian government recently refused to reiterate the one-China policy during the last joint-statement. An action which simply increased the distrust, in an already distrustful relationship.

Honestly, I don't know why they are even bothering to ask.

CD, be pragmatic, India's reiterating the one-China policy is not that important. Nothing is gonna change after they refuse to reiterate the one-China policy. Do they dare to challenge the one-China policy.

We should be happy that CCP is no longer taking such face-saving statement from India seriously like it used to be. People should know India won't add the one-China policy into the public statement for nothing, everytime they say they stick to the one-China policy, China has to pay something to India for doing that. Can you imagine how many concessions in the past decades has China made to India just for that stupid one-China policy?

And I presume it was after China refused to support India on the UNSC or Kashmir that India refused to reiterate the one-China policy. India must feel very frustrated to find out the one-China card doesn't work any more.

We should celebrate for the maturity of CCP on foreign policy.

i think china can offer it as a deal..i mean china can ask what it expects in return..if govt of india agrees i am sure they will not go back from the promise.and people are not much worried about china or anti china they are more concerned about pakistan.media my hold some debates etc i believe they won't take any aggressive stand against a goodwill gesture from our side.as a part of deal china can ask the govt of india to publish the 62 war enquiry report..but i am not sue a congress govt will agree that..if bjp comes it may happen..they are not likely to come soon because current govt is performing well though there are few issues.next election will be fought hard and there will be more soaps from govt towards the end of their term..because next PM candidate will be rahul gandhi.

@Indian members

China is very likely to turn down India on the UNSC expansion issue because India can provide nothing in exchange for the support from China. Therefore, it is not an anti-India move as some Indian member suggested in another thread. If you are mature enough, I believe you can understand that.

I agree 100%.

Which is why I'm surprised that the Indian government is asking in the first place.

Yes. In fact, the one-China policy has been less important.
China on Taiwan has an absolute advantage, Taiwan will not declare independence. If India govt want to support Taiwan, go ahead plz.

I support India government's full and absolute support of Taiwan. In fact, as voters in a supposed democracy you should push Indian government to recognize Taiwan, otherwise India is not a democracy but rather a feudal monarchy.
