NEW DELHI: Ten new nuclear power projects are planned during the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17) period, the Lok Sabha was informed Wednesday.

However, no new nuclear power projects will be launched in the remaining period of 11th Five Year Plan ending March 2012, Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office V. Narayansamy said during question hour.

Besides, seven nuclear power reactors with a capacity of 5,300 MW are under construction, he said.

Why is India operating small reactors? Even in Viet Nam, we plan to build plants with nuclear reactors of at least 1000 MW

19 nuclear projects each producing 4560MW or is it total production from 19 stations put together???

This is great news, along with renewable energy sources that India is exploring, India is well on the way to meeting it's growing and existing power needs.

one thing i dont get is that
when UPA can lathi charge Ramdev , put Anna Hazare in prison , then why cant it breakup these anti nuclear protest and put these green terrorist in prison

well you are buying reactors from Russia
while In India's case , the reactors currently in service are of 220 MW and 540 MW capacity and are of Indian Design
while the Reactors currently in construction include 2 reactors at Kundankoolam in Tamil Nadu of 1000 Mw each , these being of Russian Design . While another 5 reactors under construction in Rajasthan are of the latest Indian Design and will generate 660 MW each

we also plan to purchase 6 reactors from France of 1650 MW each , which would be setup in Jaitpur in Maharashtra , while Russia will supply us another 6 reactors of 1000 MW capacity each , to be setup at Kundankoolan in Tamil Nadu

currently India is also working on an Indigenous 900 MW Reactor Design , as well as a 500 MW Thorium Based Reactor

Buddy, every protest in India is politically motivated. Including these :hitwall:

It is only a stunt performed by some vested interest activists, and foreign identities ;)

There should never be a lathi charge on peaceful protests

All nuclear reactors will be completed and India will be power cut free from a few years from now

Emphasis should be on safety and security measures
