Mumbai: Air India flight was delayed for 57 minutes in Mumbai on Tuesday on alleged orders from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis whose principal secretary had not carried his passport with valid visa.Fadnavis was travelling to the US from Mumbai.
However, Air India spokesperson claimed that the delay was due to various other reasons. He said, “The flight was delayed by 57 minutes and that too because of operational, technical reasons. Besides, some delay also occurred on account of the ATC.”
This reminds of a situation in Pakistan where irate passengers, around 250 of them, prevented country's interior minister Rehman Malik from taking a Pakistan International Airlines flight after he allegedly kept them waiting for over two hours.
The video, shot on the mobile phone by a passenger, of the incident went viral on YouTube. The video streaming channel is banned in Pakistan.
Not stopping at that the angry passengers also forced his travel accomplice PML-N leader Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani to vacate the seat along with his bag and move out of the plane.
Reason for delay offered by Fadnavis
Later, Fadnavis also tweeted, “The allegation that I forced to delay the flight to New York is false & misleading. I totally deny it.”
The international flight AI 191 was supposed to depart around 1:30 AM.
Fadnavis is on a weeklong tour to the US along with his industries minister Subhash Desai, chief secratary Swadheen Kshatriya and principal secretary Pravin Pardeshi besides other delegation members.
He is scheduled to meet representatives of Google, Amazon, Citibank and other major companies to attract investment to Maharashtra.
