India may offer loans to poor nations to develop infrastructure

Developmental loans are almost always soft loans

Agreed, but there are other benefits, which clearly outweigh the initial loan amount . India is only following China's lead and China hasn't made a dumb move yet.

And once again its not the right time for India, we need to fix our home first.

The worse part is India is doing it for a UNSC seat. How is life for people going to be better with a UNSC seat?

India is expected to extend loans and fund infrastructure development to strengthen relations with a group of economically poor but resources-rich nations from Asia and Africa during a ministerial meeting in New Delhi this week, ahead of a possible revamp of the United Nations Security Council.

The support of the group of 48 countries will be crucial for India which is seeking a permanent seat in the revamped UN Security Council.

For a Nation to spend wisely on its Population, the country must First assure its Security and what better Option do we have than a Permanent seat in the UNSC??? It not only challenges our Concerns but also Helps us to Be liberal on our Security issues which Helps the Govt to plan a Budget favoring the Needy...

The timing of such announcement might have something to do with UNSC seat, but the motive is not. Motive is this,

You're already on the UN security council and do you think being on that body makes India any safer? They barely can agree to send peacekeepers when they are needed, how is it suppose to make India safe?

I get all that, but at the same time so many of our own infrastructure project are in limbo cause of lack of funding and waiting for loans from other countries like Japan. Chinese have made it. Their infrastructure is top notch, we still have a long way to go. Once we have done that we can go into this strategic influence game.

Agree on your point of view... but if we are late in the game we may never be in the race for the resources. Think long term ... not the short term benefits.

Yes, Being on the Body defenetly makes India safer....Being on top of the body allows India to tackle Its Issues along with the worlds... Well India is one of the largest contributors of Peacekeepers You agree or not....How many Pece keepers have china sent even though its the Head of UNSC.... 1000?? 2000?? not more than that i believe....

I agree, more than security council seat we need to secure resources to drive our future growth. We may reap dual benefit out of this investment though. Smart move!

I agree about peacekeepers, but does that have to do with the UNSC being effective? Also India wouldn't be at the top of the body, the top would still be P5 with veto. India has only received support for UNSC permanent sans veto.

Ek teer se do shikar:lol: Only if our shikaris(read politicians) weren't as corrupt we would be in a different league.

Sad but true. Sometimes I think, we should have some thing like bonuses/fixed % commission in deals for our politicians. I guess that will curb their desire for extracting money via unfair means.

Now You started it by saying India cannot give peacekeepers , now Why do you ask me if that deals in the UNSC being effective?? Well, A Permanent seat is all we weant, and Veto we have our allies there, But Veto is hardly ever Used, but a strong tool....
