India has the most toxic air: Study

Fair enough the last post was not a great reply, my apologies... but I have a few questions in regards to Shanghai's air quality this video shows otherwise the real state of Shanghai’s state correct me if I am wrong but what is going on here?

I agree India’s air quality and pollution is not that greatest figures in the world and if they are in this state then the GOI needs to take swift action as the health of our citizens are at risk.

I was in Shanghai in 2010, the air there is pretty good for urban China. Is it pristine ocean island air? No way. But compared to what it could be, like Beijing, its amazing. For one, in Beijing, there's diesel fumes hanging in the air every day at 4-8, literally everywhere. Shanghai doesn't have that.

LOL at the Indians who always claim that they are better than China in terms of toxic air and pollution.

And India hasn't even industrialized yet.

If you are not blind, check the image that Roy posted. Harmfulness to Human health is lot lower in India and that is what matters.

Wrong ,life expectancy in india is 10 years less than china may be something to do with the toxic air no?

No, it hardly has anything to do with Toxic air. It's due to lack of medical facilities in the rural areas and a lot people still being unawares about healthcare.
@topic India having the most toxic air is really surprising to me. I live in Bangalore and the air here is as clean as in any city in the Wo.rld

Yes, there are no industrial accidents in India or the US, only China ???

Bhopal makes an iPad factory look like a Sunday afternoon stroll in the park.

Bhopal is still the worst recorded industrial accident in the history of the world.

As India, Pakistan and other developing nations vie for foreign direct investments by multi-national companies seeking to set up industries to lower their production costs and increase their profits, the lessons of Bhopal must not be forgotten. It is the responsibility of the governments of the developing countries to insist on legislating and enforcing strict environmental and safety standards to protect their people to avoid another Bhopal. Public interest groups, NGOs and environmental and labor activists must press the politicians and the bureaucrats to protect the people against the growing safety hazards stemming from increasing global footprint of large industrial conglomerates.

I think cows can be really polluting, pooping all over the streets. The waste chemicals in cow droppings are very dangerous. Also, India is a much much smaller country than China, with about the same population. So basically, all the pollution is condensed to a small area. India also depends so much on coal power plant, which of course pollutes like crazy.

With a score of just 3.73 out of 100, India ranks as the worst country for the ill effects of toxic air pollution on human health among 132 nations, according to a report presented at the World Economic Forum 2012. India's neighbors also score poorly for toxic air pollution, but still significantly better than India. For example China scores 19.7, followed by Pakistan (18.76), Nepal (18.01) and Bangladesh (13.66).

In the overall rankings based on 22 policy indicators, India finds itself ranked at 125 among the bottom ten environmental laggards such as Yemen, South Africa, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Iraq while Pakistan ranks slightly better at 120. The indicators used for this ranking are in ten major policy categories including air and water pollution, climate change, boidiversity, and forest management.

These rankings are part of a joint Yale-Columbia study to index the nations of the world in terms of their overall environmental performance. The Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy and Columbia's Center for International Earth Science Information Network have brought out the Environment Performance Index rankings every two years since 2006.

The Yale-Columbia study confirms that environmental problems in South Asia are growing rapidly. The increasing consumption by rapidly growing population is depleting natural resources, and straining the environment and the infrastructure like never before. Soil erosion, deforestation, rapid industrialization, urbanization, and land and water degradation are all contributing to it.

How China Is (Surprise!) Winning Its War On Air Pollution
But the country isn't in the clear yet.

Don’t let the "red alerts," smog-shrouded buildings or blotted-out sun fool you: Beijing and China on the whole appear to be gaining real ground in the war on pollution.

In 2015, Beijing saw a 16 percent annual fall in the concentration of the most deadly type of air pollutant, according to an analysis by the Paulson Instituteand Greenpeace of air quality data from the United States Embassy in Beijing. Though virtually all of those gains were registered during the summer and early fall, they still proved enough to make 2015 the cleanest year since the embassy began publishing data in 2008.

Wow, there was already reports on Indian air quality back in 2012? Most of them were denying it apparently, now with more media attention, we know India is the most polluted country on earth.
