“India can help build democracy in Arab world”

In case you missed it - we had few articles posted here where India won some major contracts in Arab lands. Yes India is trying to be vocal global leader, advocating democracy in the world.

advocating, anyone can do that.

practicing would be better.

anyway, let the arabs decide themselves, they dont need a pseudo power nudging them in certain directions.

i wonder if ay arab poster could inform us they would seek india's help on this issue, when there are better more qualified nations....just wondering.

is this basically india trying to be a global player?

Lets be realistic, India is the largest democracy in the world. Its not a perfect democracy ofcourse but it will take decades if not centuries to perfect it. Infact, it will always be a continous process. The US is STILL not a perfect democracy after almost 3 centuries of democratic rule. It was only in the 1960s and 70s that the Blacks still had to fight for their civil rights.

India has been conducting free and fair elections for 60+ years almost and the conservative culture such as seperate lines for males and females when voting and taking into illiterate voters e.t.c are practical issues that India has been dealing with for the past 60 years.

So its about providing a helping hand to those who want it. If the countries themselves don't request it, then there is no reason why India would force itself on them and demand that it has a role in building instituions. It won't happen that way.

places like britain are light years ahead of india, i mean india is good in some ways, but there are more qualified nations for this.


this really just sounds like india's soft power tricks, not bad, lets see if there are any takers.

If Arab countries REQUEST, then India will help.

India is not going to help if its not uninvited. And some Pakistanis may be surprised but anyone who has spend some time in the Arab world, GCC countries or even Palestine will know that India by and large has good will among the Arabs.

There are no historical baggage of exploitation and wars like the West has, nor any conflicts of interests.

They have decided in favor of India and India is not nudging , it is helping. Happy to help is not same as " you must do this".

what is bothering you about this? the fact that majority of the Muslim world has a great relationship or strives for one with India? I can't think of any Islamic country, besides pak, that we have an issue with. I'm sure there must be at least one other that despises us like Pakistan? In all seriousness- can anyone help on this ? who else could it be?

I think the message by SM Krishna is in the right tone and context.
He very categorically mentioned that there won't be any interference, but India will be willing to help if asked for.

For people trying to give it a religious angle to it... go do some better things in life.

Facts don't match your rhetoric bud. Arab countries do business with Christan US a lot too. you may hate Hindus ( as obvious it is here) . But just a few days ago India won a contract to build the biggest Oil infrastructure ( something to that nature)in Saudi Arabia. there are very many close ties and deals with islamic countries ...

You gave the answer yourself, you do BUSINESS with them, that is the only reason what Arab countries want to do with India. Islam allows to do activities like trade and commerce with infidels. And India can only do business with them. Nothing else!

FYI, I have lived in Saudi Arabia for 12 years and have visited a number of Arab countries. The perception is nothing what you claim. Maybe its what you want it to be, but too bad that is not the case.

And what has this got to do with being loyal to Islam? India has 170million muslims who practice Islam freely in their daily lives. And in some cases have more freedom than say secular dictatoships in Central Asia or the erstwhile Tunisia.
Did you know that Allama Iqbal in 1930 mentioning his stand on India and its place for Muslims in it in Allahabad adress said that India is the greatest Muslim country in the world?
