India Andhra Pradesh train crash leaves 39 dead and scores injured

Indian government needs to find a way out of this vicious cycle. There are more things that Modi can do to Indian rail systems than tweeting.
problem is, Indians will be up in arms if the ticket price increases by a few rupees... but they will demand more trains on the same track and applaud the minister for that... railway minister usually imposes high tariff on goods to recoup some of the cost..
this has been going on for ages, not current minister's fault.. in fact he is among sane railway ministers who is serious about safety...
unfortunately a spate of accidents has happened during his regime... not sure how much blame he should take for years of neglect.
@anant_s is our railway expert, he would have some inside knowledge behind whats going on.

As of now sabotage is said to be the reason behind the accident but as always i would want to wait for forensic reports and see what the root cause could be. Such cases often originate from either mechanical failure of components like track assembly, a locomotive or train going too fast in a Speed restricted region and/or human errors linked with signalling, driving staff etc.
In either case loss of human life is regrettable and i hope we have a quick inquiry of event and necessary corrective actions are implemented asap. of late IR has seen an increase in such derailments and if there is a common denominator to all these events, it better be corrected quickly.

Correct assessment. Existing lines are operating at very high capacity factors (near saturation and in many cases far above) and unless there is a fare rationalization and more funds are allocated to safety measures such a TPWS, these events won't stop. There simply are too many trains on tracks to allow safe operation. So capacity increase (by means of more line addition) and investment in safety are most pressing requirement, right now.

@waz i hate to bother you every once in a while, but please look at some comments making a mockery of loss of life.

Orissa Police say zero signs of sabotage.
Remember Railways has a habit of falsely claiming sabotage to save themselves, In 2002 Rafiganj accident Railway minister himself said that it was sabotage but then final accident report proved that it was due to track failure.

Rip to the dead. A superpower need to take care of its people first. Otherwise, they will be the next Soviet Union.

Instead of building subs and planes that kills its own soldiers because of bad workmanship, India should focus on updating its decrepit infrastructure to save the life's of its own citizens.

Yes, We are taking clue from china and its great plane J10 which fell from the sky like anything and pilots are unable to eject. When we will lean this great alien chinese technology, we will incorporate that into our planes.

Well there was a blast in Pakistani border town few days back.

Seems like ISI took the revenge by eliminating more than double number of indians and causing much more damage.

Good work, ISI.

:D

Sarcasm or not what a shyt thing to say.. These are innocent lives lost whichever side of the border they're from

As i said above, let us wait for investigation report to come out. off late rail line fractures has become a very common reason for derailments and if this a case of fatigue fracture, pathway engineers will be held accountable.
But let us wait for formal investigations to get completed.

all the previous claims of sabotage are lies, am pretty sure.. good that orissa police did not go bihar/UP police way... but the accident occurred in AP, right? besides how equipped are these police forces to do an investigation and say its sabotage within hours?

Officials tell OneIndia that the chances of sabotage are low. "Even if someone had wanted to target the track he would not have done it so close to the signal cabin," says an official. The track was broken around 100 metres away from the Kuneru signal cabin

The thread was about a crash where real people lost their lives, and we have posters using it for points scoring. Have some shame!
RIP to the poor folks.

RIP! But seriously what's going on in Supa Powa? A train wreck every month like terroist attacks in Turkey?
